The first LP on DRED Records is a wide selection of hazy house, dreamy techno and mind-bending electronics by Japanese artist Tasoko.

"The first time I met Tasoko was in Okinawa when we played together at the Sakurazaka g club. Before our set times we sat together in a park next
to the club under a full moon of May 2018. We spoke about the universal connectedness of the cosmos and having faith in the paths that we are all
on. Tasoko, a native to the tropical island of Okinawa, told me that he had been experimenting with making music and with his gentle, peaceful
personality I was of course keen to hear his endeavours.
Upon returning to Berlin after the rest of my tour in Japan I found Tasoko had sent me a collection of tracks to listen to. I was not expecting anything
like what I heard, he had greatly undersold his abilities that night in Okinawa. I had the collection of tracks on repeat for the next 3 days and with
each listen I discovered more. This was not just a collection of tracks, this was an album in the classic sense with a narrative running from start to
finish.
I am happy to present to you the first full length LP on DRED Records: ‘Elements’ by Tasoko a
humble yet exceptionally talented new artist. A
collection of intricute ambient techno tracks that reflect his personality and the island he grew up on. Featuring cover photo by fellow Okinawan, Iori
from Field & Semantica records. The album is available digitally and in mixed Cassette tape format."

Sunday evening, April 20th, 2025 – Sisyphos was packed, the Wintergarten buzzing with friends, family, and a dance floor full of familiar faces. To celebrate my 50th Birthday, Frazer Campbell, Scuba, George Fitzgerald, and I took turns behind the decks, keeping the room moving from start to finish. It was one of those nights where the music did all the talking – raw, hypnotic, and unfiltered. Moments blurred into hours as we dug deep into our record bags, each drop landing just right, each track a nod to those endless, hazy nights that only Berlin seems to get away with.

This recording is a snapshot of that night – a little slice of chaos, a lot of groove, and a room that never once stood still. Play it loud.

At least six years have passed since I closed the TANSTAAFL SIGNAL podcast & radio show. It ran for almost two years with a new podcast every month and also broadcast on Berlin’s original pirate radio station TWEN FM 88.4. It was a big deal back then, even RA wrote about our show and label (https://www.residentadvisor.net/news/14363) The series featured what are now some of the most respected figures in house & techno today with artists such as Kowton, Kassem Mosse, Dirty Talk, October, Eric Cloutier, Kenneth Christiansen, Chris SSG and many others. Since it came to an end I have not felt the pull to start another mix/podcast series. I did not feel I had anything worth saying in what has now become such an over saturated podcast ‘market’. 

I have a deep fascination with the ‘mix tape’ and I knew that it was just a matter of time until the right reason/idea would present itself and inspire me to explore this format again. That time came this summer, over a pint in Chelmsford, Essex UK, as I sat down with an of old mate, Craig White. He told me of an old mix he had from the mid 90s that was originally recorded to DAT. As he was talked my neurones fired rapidly.

Rewind time a bit. 

In 1991, I was a 16 year old school boy, and one lunch break a friend of mine took me to her boyfriends flat, up the road from our school. It was the first time I had met Craig and I was a little intimidated, this guy was older than me and already had his own flat and to me then, that was a big deal. I had no idea how this lunch break would change the course of my life forever; Craig White was a DJ and had turntables. I entered his bedroom and my eyes fell, for the first time ever, upon two decks and a mixer. Mesmerised by their dominating presence and having no idea of the consequences of asking a DJ a music related question, I innocently said to Craig “What is Metroplex?” As this was what I read on his slip mats. Craig then started to play me all his recent purchases of US import 12” Detroit electro records from Metroplex, Transmat, Direct Beat and then onto European stuff, including Kraftwerk. My mind was blown and my obsession with electronic music was cemented. 

I knew this was my new podcast idea calling. To create a series of mixes from artists on and related to DRED Records that focus on the musical influences that motivated us to become musicians, to go deep into why we do what we do but told with music. The first podcast on the DRED STONE LIBERATION MIXES is this mix from 1990 that Craig found on DAT. Craig was ground zero for my musical obsession, and also gave me the idea to start this. Almost 30 years later it has come full circle to propel another chapter in my journey. Craig will also be dropping a heavy electro EP on DRED Records next year and this mix will defiantly give you a clue as to how that will sound. This is music from a friend that has inspired me and I hope it goes on to inspire many others. This is music from a person that has had a passion for dance music for over 3 decades and it is a passion that is pure and honest.

"Mixes to liberate you from the daily drudgery" The selection was an attempt to contrast two or more quite different genres throughout a mix. Genres that both have a strong effect on the listener in terms of 'liberation' but that do so for different reasons. The end result of part 1 is a juxtapose of past and future... 60's/70's soundtrack and library music with contemporary electronic music.
This mix is the first part of a trilogy which attempts to explore juxtapositions of different genres that MadderModes are interested in and inspired by.
