From the very first track, it’s clear that Abby Echiverri’s debut, the “Ab Initio” EP is something different and rare: a polished and fresh interpretation of electronic music that incorporates classic electro squelches with intricate broken beats and expansive synthesizer zone-outs. Although this is her first EP, Abby has extensive history as a musician, sound engineer, DJ and VJ. Her current trajectory started early in childhood when she was classically trained in violin, flute, piano and vocals, cementing music as a part of her daily life. In high school she picked up turntables and began collecting records, eventually moving to NYC to study recording engineering and perform in post-punk bands, and became a regular at Wierd and The Bunker at a very young age. Since then, Echiverri has devoted her professional hours to engineering, maintaining, and manufacturing audio equipment for studios and clubs around the world. 

This record’s name “Ab Initio” means “from the beginning” or “from first principles”, invoking a propulsive leap into the future and also perhaps including an element of the eponymous. When we asked her to tell us more about the process of creating these hardware-based jams, Abby explained: “It all stems from my own experiences on the dancefloor and wanting to recreate that for other people. I want to make music that rewires the brain: music that is challenging, yet groovy... repetitive, yet evolving. An aural psychedelic. It's a lofty goal - I'm still working on it.” If Ab Initio is one of her first steps towards that goal then we can’t wait to see what happens next.

Abby Echiverri - Nadezhda

Joel Alter aka Jor-El has been a solid figure in the house & techno scene for two decades. Releasing an award winning album on Kontra Music (Jonnson/Alter), and countless other 12 inch singles on labels like Bass Culture Records, Uncanny Valley, Room With A View,  Echocord, True Rotary and recently BROR Records, Joel finally drops his debut Ep on DRED Records: the ‘Follow Me EP’ 

Celebrating this release Joel has delivered his contribution to the DSLM series. These podcast are about influences, past or present, so Joel went to his roots as a Drum ’n’ Bass DJ and laid down some serious original fire. Load this one up, turn on the subs and let it roll out. Singing

Amanda is a pillar of the scene in São Paulo, where she puts on the Dûsk party. About this mix, she says "I did a combination of genres from my influences to my contemporary taste such as ambient, breakbeats, EBM, electro and techno mixing dark and also uplifting atmospheres, i usually love to play with variety of sensations and intensity in my sets."

The Bunker Podcast 213: Amanda Mussi

Versatility is a quality that is embodied in the style of Vincenzo Pizzi, an Italian producer who works in a musical context based on the harshness and rawness of techno, but always starting from this genre as a basis for all his subsequent development, as an influence that expands with breaks, advanced electronica and electronic sounds.

Vincenzo is the head of Pyteca, a label he founded in 2016 and which houses his latest album. Archivio is a 9-track release that stands out for its diversity, as it combines fast and broken rhythms with the rhythmic immutability of techno. Each track is a completely different story from the rest, the album does not have to follow a stipulated or agreed upon line, with patterns that can give indications of what the listener is going to hear, but rather it is a multiple connection, united by forcefulness.

Release date: September 28th, 2020.
