“Music has always had a way of pulling me into the present. I grew up living in Panama and Germany where I was exposed to sounds I’ll cherish forever; salsa, merengue, samba in Latin America in the ’90s, electronic music in Europe in the mid-2000s. That infused with an Americana third culture upbringing abroad, I found my ability to relate to others without speaking. As I dove into the electronic music scene in my early 20’s, music became one of the many ways I learned how to make an impact on the world.

Now as an artist, it’s always been my aim to impart that impact and presentness with others. I’ve experienced so many beautiful moments under a DJ’s spell, completely present-minded and entranced, it’s a goal of mine to give that feeling back. Now in a world full of distractions, giving someone the space to outsmart their smartphone is the best gift of all.”

This set is very different genre-wise from what I’ve made before, I realize it won’t be for everyone, but in terms of storytelling and curation, this is a classic JRynecki mix. 

Before I became a self-proclaimed house music head, I fell in love with liquid drum & bass. In my unconscious impossible pursuit of becoming a music snob in my mid- late 20’s, I disregarded anything I didn’t listen to at the time as music of my past, like something I had outgrown and could disregard. 

  Good music is timeless, and over the last few years, I found my way back to the genre that I loved so much in my early raver days and realized I still love it today. Coincidently, I also started to notice some of my favorite producers diving into the liquid genre with a few limited LP’s. Anthony Mea, Janeret, among others. 

  Heavy basslines of classic drum & bass are still present, yet the sub-genre of liquid can be much more melodic- filled with powerful sassy vocals and a wide range of organic instruments.   

 I love listening to this genre during idea creation, coupled with a cup of coffee, on a drive, or during a workout. I find it extremely therapeutic, I hope this mix does the same for you, enjoy!

Liquid Coffee & Ideas

I’ve come to realize how much I love and appreciate the transition between tracks more than individual songs alone. Transitioning in life can be hard at times, living in that transition and blending harmoniously into what’s next is something I always strive for (though don’t always succeed at). Music is a teacher for me that never stops giving me hope and confidence - there’s always a way to create something even while things change and life is on the move.   

I really challenge myself with these mixes, working with different elements of music theory to find the perfect combination between songs and moods. Weaving in more major chords vs strictly all songs in minor chords to create tension and release, layering in vocals to supplement songs that are already well produced on their own.

Excited to share this with everyone. I started this months ago in Santa Cruz while traveling for work, delayed and plagued by a bit of creator’s block and self-doubt that I could ever finish it. It’s come together better than I anticipated, my newest mix and my personal favorite I’ve made yet.

Santa Cruz To Chicago

I’ve had the pleasure and opportunity of living in Playa Venao, Panama over the last month. My family is from a small town called Guarare en route to this particular beach, I’ve been visiting this place for as long as I can remember.

From an empty beach with one bohío restaurant and a handful of surfers, this place has blossomed into an international surf destination and dance music hub, while still keeping a small beach town feel. 

This mix is not the sound of Playa Venao, think of this more as an interpretation of my memories of this beautiful place, expressed through song. Enjoy :)

De una playa vacía con un bohío y unos pocos surfistas, este lugar se ha convertido en un destino internacional de surf y un centro de música, sin dejar de mantener la sensación de un pequeño pueblo de playa.

Este mix no es el sonido de Playa Venao, piensa en esto más como una interpretación de mis recuerdos de este hermoso lugar, expresado a través de canción. Disfurta :)

Playa Venao Sunrise ✨ 🏄‍♂️

There is a particular moment in my future that I keep envisioning for myself - the first time I perform as an event headliner; proper sound system, packed crowd, 2 hours or more to play. This moment is by no means a career peak, but an important milestone among many. 

I have a story that I want to tell, a quilted narrative of my many life experiences - expressed through song. I’ve been inspired by many top tier performances by some of the greats in dance music - Laurent Garnier, Kolsch, Dixon, Mira, DJ Koze, Eric Prdyz, Above & Beyond, among many many more. 


These headliners helped spark something in me that I want to continue to pass on as a performer - hope, inspiration, motivation from an internal source, pure momentary bliss that allowed me to solve my own problems. Putting on a show to conjure up magic that envelops the dance floor and brings out the best in humanity. 

This mix is my first attempt at the vibe and essence I want to capture during a JRynecki headliner set. The last hour or so (from 60 minutes into until 2 hours and 4 minutes), is some of the best music I’ve ever composed as a DJ. Peak JRynecki magic of combining and transitioning between major and minor keys, cinematic big sounds, higher tempo, layering and combining loops and harmonies utilizing 3-4 CDJs, original edits and acapella mashups, and lots of breakbeat. 

As an event attendee, this kind of set would feel like a movie, one where you’d be glued to the dancefloor throughout the ebbs and flows of the intended journey.     

I typically produce my Soundcloud sets in Ableton, allowing me to save progress, make flawless transitions, and work at my own pace. While there are many benefits to this process, this also causes me to overanalyze and work forever without a deadline. This set, however, is intentionally live, done in one take with 3 CDJs and a lot of love.

It’s intended for a live audience on a big sound system, this kind of set will translate well at the gym, on a long drive, traveling, or simply dancing.  Enjoy!

The Headliner Set

John is a DJ and music producer from Chicago and Panama on a mission to inspire those on the dance floor with a sense of presence and abundance. A Tale from John Rynecki - Summer of Sol 2023 Dj Set

Recorded set from my first ever Liquid drum and bass performance with UAGC and Big Brain this past Saturday (December 2nd, 2023 / Chicago, IL) 

I’m a House music DJ with a love affair for this particular genre of drum and bass, a love affair that goes back to 2013. The genre has such a wide range, it can be jazzy, sexy, and melodic. The pretty higher elements of songs contrast beautifully with gnarly basslines creating such a fun atmosphere and vibe.   

It’s also a genre that lends itself well to the dramatic, and the ability to layer songs at half time is a huge creativity bonus. Using 3-4 CDJs, you can really go bananas and blend in and make new songs out of thin air. I was able to layer in multiple favorite songs and artists on top of stripped down DnB percussion without it coming across as cheesy or obnoxious - Above & Beyond, George Fitzgerald, Kerala Dust, Keinemusik, Eric Prydz, Thievery Corporation to name a few song cameos. This was a pleasure to perform, enjoy 🙌

Live at Liquid Jungle - Recorded DnB Set (12.02.2023)

I love things that are low effort and high reward - especially something that comes easy while flexing a muscle as a DJ and artist. 

Composing studio mixes comes super naturally to me, I have so much fun making them, and the reaction on SoundCloud to this particular genre for me is always overwhelmingly positive.

This is something I’ve been holding out on, making deep house studio mixtapes, since the fall of 2022 (all my mixes from 2023 were on CDJs). I paused making these out of concern for spreading myself too thin while diving into music production last year.   

The last few weeks I’ve been digging into my process as a producer and working on my signature sound - by doing so I’ve been able to hone on the vibe and sound that is my niche as an artist to exploit. 

Introducing - “Sunday Morning Groove” a cozy, vibey mix series to showcase some of my favorite music while giving me a platform to show off new incoming unreleased music- imagine a rainy Sunday morning at home, smooth jazzy, sexy, warm tones playing off your record player, while raindrops patter over a big beautiful window. perfect for daydreaming, cleaning, relaxing while taking that first sip of coffee or tea.

I’ve wanted to make a personal mix series for a few years now and I’m very happy I waited for the name to come to me naturally, enjoy!

Not bad for a first-ever release for this Revive community leader and exceptional human, eh?
