Yet another C-19 song, this one a tribute to all those who were:

When the word hit the streets that a killer disease was loose,
Didn’t matter that it wasn’t near, it was still big news.
Just the pictures of hospital beds, the masks and the tubes,
Was enough to spread panic and fear;
What if it somehow came over here?

How hospitals managed, nobody knows.

Spring

when you wake up, morning
kettle on, still yawning
cat rubs leg, it’s purring
juice maker, it’s whirring
coffee needed, full roast
marmalade on thick toast
start to reboot your brain
as you head for the train

so at first all seems fine
not rain but sunny shine
then look at their faces
vacant eyes, blank spaces
see you and look away
their façade coloured grey
maybe some hope inside
but to the world denied

you get told what you need
plant a tree, not a seed
but as soon as it’s bought
you need a new one is what you’re taught
why do we live this way
same shit day after day
why not escape the flock
with those who are woke, the ones the dailies mock

so the way things are going
leaves us no way of knowing
who we should be following
give it up
hear your inner voice calling
telling you life’s appalling
time to stop yourself falling
give it up

when you wake up wondering
what sound that is thundering
it’s just the world outside
taking you for a ride
coffee won’t do the trick
taste of it makes you sick
fails to reboot your brain
life going down the drain


finally all seems lost
nothing is worth the cost
tried talking to your boss
but he don’t give a toss
sees you and looks away
suit and face coloured grey
the faintest glow inside
but to you it’s denied

you get told what you need
