I will be covering songs that not only had a major influence on my own songwriting, but just meant something personal to me. And made me feel. Didn't matter what it made me feel, it just made me feel.

So... January's offering... "The Last Day of Our Acquaintance" by Sinead O'Connor.

This song has one of the best builds of any song. Sinead O'Connor's original just sucks you in and the gut punches you with the final repeat of the first verse.  

Hope I did it justice.

Melody

Written from a dark place, but eventually hopeful.  It's for anyone who has felt utterly lost and lonely and needs pain to stop, but cannot admit they they need help to take away what hurts.  In the end, the realisation that everyone has someone is what I wanted to show. Nobody is completely alone.  I hope you enjoy.

Take Away

The family have lit more than a few candles in this time of lockdown and quarantine.  Something we do to say goodbye to loved ones, to reflect on a good or bad day, or to just gain some measure of calm.  I tried to channel a bit of that into this song.

The ghosts of The Beautiful South, The Lightning Seeds and a heavy dose of Brett Dennen went into this song.

Hopefully it's a little bit of light if you're feeling a little dark.

Shine a Little Light On

One of my most personal tracks ever.

It's easier to put my feelings down in music and lyrics...

As I reflected on nearly four years of sobriety and six years of recovery, I had a song I needed to write to say how I felt.  I put my family through hell and back. I continue to make amends, but it will never be enough to take back how scared and alone I made them (and all those that I love) feel.

If you are struggling, I urge you to seek help. Pick up the phone and speak to someone...anyone.
