I am curious how my, or anybody's, musical output is altered by actual life. Usually, well, at least over the last bunch of years that I've been posting here. I can't really say because both the music and life are in a constant flow. This last year though the music and my normal day to day life were somewhat interrupted. I seem to be settling into a familiar but slightly different approach. Although most of my curiosities remain. This piece is really a reframing. That's what I like to call it when I cover a song by someone but keep the original vocal. In this case Ian Stephen. As a change of pace I am actually playing, as a bassist with Mr. Stephen. I must say it delights me that for once I can share one of my musical portraits with the subject. It's also fun to ponder why I've changed, in my own music, what I have.

In a basement completely sheltered from noise and the outside world, without telephones or internet, I was able to reasonably compose around fifteen titles without any interference. This isolation will remain a beneficial event in more than one way.

Its a minute to eleven and my bags are all packed
4 years of war and I've lived through it all
I heard they signed a deal so nobody will kill 
I never ever thought it would end top this way

I've been sleeping in the mud for so long I'm going mad
fire shot and shell I've faced it all I can recall
every friend I had has gone and bought it in the mud
they gave me a medal just for staying alive 

what will I do when I go I've been dreaming of home for so long
will I get back to Blighty  I have to start over again

you should have seen the truce on the day the angel sang
2 sides came together and exchanged all pleasantries 
the sound of silent night the sight of souvenirs and gifts
once the game was over out came the guns

can't believe I've nearly made it through
next month ill join the working queue
will she still be there when I get back
how long will it take for me to crack

time is nearly up and so I throw my rifle down
I take a minute to reflect on the horrors I have faced
on the road to mons im just walking by a house
shot through the heart and im spoken to no more

A minute to Eleven

‘Why’ is the sixth studio quality Grey Hounds song to be released, this one delves into the meaning of life. A small percentage of people know exactly what they’re doing here and are getting on with it. The rest of us spend lives wondering around aimlessly hoping to crack the enigma of life. Who’d have thought choosing a cover for this song would be so much fun, the ‘Y’ fronts came up trumps of course.
We're a bunch of grey-haired old men having fun writing our own songs and wishing we'd done it 40 years earlier!! The plan is to write and release an album of songs in the coming year or so, then build the courage to go out and play them live in front of real audiences.
