Matt Wolpers Musical Biography

With a musical journey that spans decades, Matt Wolpers has cultivated a unique and diverse sound that draws from a wide range of influences and a deep-seated passion for music. It all began with a chance encounter at five years old —a Danish exchange student that his parent’s sponsored played the piano in the families music room.  Matt was blown away be how the student played by ear. This awe-inspiring moment ignited Matt’s desire to create music that could touch hearts and resonate with audiences.

Growing up, Matt’s family played a pivotal role in shaping his musical tastes. Classical and jazz, instilled by his parents, fused seamlessly with the blues, classic rock, hard rock, punk rock, and reggae introduced by an influential uncle and older brothers. These early experiences provided the foundation for Matt’s eclectic musical style.

Formal music education played a part, too, with Matt Wolpers immersing themselves in various instruments during school, from viola and drums to the recorder and xylophone. The unwavering support of Matt's father, who shared the cost of musical instruments, allowed for the acquisition of synthesizers and drum machines—a pivotal moment in the journey towards music creation.

Collaboration and camaraderie with friends fueled Matt’s passion further. From garage bands in middle school to rock bands in high school and college, Matt’s was constantly learning, evolving, and experimenting with music. The R&B band they joined in college, performing both covers and originals, marked another significant milestone.

Matt’s musical style defies easy categorization, as his influences are as diverse as his tastes. From the haunting keyboard work of Ray Manzarek to the improvisational magic of Grateful Dead musicians, his music blends elements of blues, rock, and reggae with a touch of R&B and electronic experimentation. It's an ever-evolving soundscape where creativity knows no bounds.

The digital age ushered in new possibilities, enabling Matt to easily create and share his music with the world. SoundCloud became the canvas for Matt's musical expressions, with over twenty songs that span a lifetime of musical exploration.

Highlights of Matt Wolpers’s musical career include his debut solo album, "Trees," a poignant instrumental celebration of nature and music. Currently working on "Surf," an album inspired by coastal experiences, Matt continues to push the boundaries of his creativity.

Molly spent 15+ years as singer & songwriter in the honky tonk band, Porter Hall Tennessee. In July 2011, the band called it quits.  Molly is currently writing songs at her home in Florida.  

rewind a little:
I was laying in my hospital bed, recovering from thyroid cancer surgery(which is a nightmare especially if you're a singer!) while reading an article about the fast growing music scene and college in Murfreesboro, TN.  I was 19 years old.   I applied, got in, and moved from Maryland. I decided I could either rot in my hometown or I could keep playing music, and since Frederick, MD did not have much of a scene, I decided to go. I moved to Tennessee not knowing a single soul. Shortly after, I started recording with my band and got a record deal. I was barely 21. I toured the U.S.and Europe, sold thousands of records, went to #17 on The Americana Music Charts, met & shared the stage with a lot of my musical heroes. and got my college degree. We were Classic Country meets Punk Rock. We were a guy and girl duo with rock guitars, country drums, and bluegrass harmonies. I played in this band for nearly 15 years.
Fast forward through years of touring, recording, more cancer surgeries, marriage, divorce, hotel rooms, broken bottles, sketchy club owners, the good, the bad, and the ugly..that band broke up.
That's when 'The Molly Conley Band' was born. There wasn't much thought put into this name (maybe obviously) and this may not be the name I end up using forever. It's simple, to the point, & hopefully unpretentious. And that's what I think this band is: classic country vocals, edgy/but thoughtful words, with a rock mentality. -with a little woman on top


Molly has shared the stage with The Drive By Truckers, Patty Griffin ,Steve Earle, Todd Snider, Kevn Kinney(of Drivin n Cryin), Hank 3, Bobby Bare Jr, Dex Rom Weber, Buddy Miller, Wes Freed, The Starroom Boys, Mary Gauthier, and Charlie Louvin (to name a few)
