From the opening launch of the title track to the crushing industrial and touches of trance, this shows the ever evolving state of techno and gives us glimpse of where it’s headed. Today we premiere the heavy, dance floor destroying remix of “Clear Quesy” by label owner P.E.A.R.L.

Birmingham Techno paragon Monrella (Mick Harris) doesn't mess about, returning to Trauma Collective with 'Shank', a no-nonsense cut of heads down 909 techno. His analog production strikes a fine balance between solid groove and industrial rumble as the characteristically dry precussion crunches around a relentless synth stab. 

Alongside Regis and Surgeon, Harris was an architect of the dark Birmingham sound that blossomed out of club night House of God. He played a key role in the genesis of grindcore in the late 80s as the former drummer of Napalm Death and went on to translate his taste for raw, analog distortion into rugged 4x4 club tools with productions for Regis' ZET label in the mid 90s as Monrella. Several alias projects followed, the broken techno explorations of Fret, beatless dark ambient with Lull and the dub inflected trip-hop / illbient of Scorn. 

'Shank' is remixed on the flip by the Berlin-based Force Reaction, a collaborative project from Kwartz and Kaiser, two purveyors of a particularly muscular strain of techno igniting dances across Europe. They last released together on Kaiser's K S R imprint back in 2021 but this is Kwartz's second outing on Trauma Collective after a link up with Monrella on TRM003. Their version introduces reverb and echo to the mix while firmly retaining dancefloor utlity. 

Rounding up the B-side is a polyrhythmic and densley textured remix from Héctor Sandoval as Tensal. Sandoval is one half of pioneering Spanish techno duo Exium, and he also contributed to ZET back in 2001. Tensal doubles up on this release, dispatching a second remix in the form of a peak-time thumper available as a digital only bonus track.

A huge source of inspiration to DMF since those highly sought after HFP 12”s hit the record store racks in 2014, Head Front Panel delivers a superb well rounded 4 track EP titled ‘Tactile’ for DMF’s 5th release.

The opening track 'Panama' opens with some otherworldly pads, sweeping resonances tickle the ear before signature HFP drums hit you with pure engaging energy. Broken kick drums and rattling percussion perfectly sit on this hypnotic tribal-esque sonic dream, a depth and area that we've not heard from HFP before. 'Tactile' brings the perfect tool, loopy rhythms that stretch the perception of time whilst getting lost in subtle rides and eerie door creaking atmospheres, deep listening will provide a new journey on every repeat. 'Surdo' open's side B, and we're catapulted into the fire with shaker/hi hat percussions that grab your attention immediately and vocal samples scatter across the stereo field. Shimmering pads take the track into deeper territory but all while keeping in a constant state of forward motion accented by the occasional double kick drum. Hailing from the Midwest US, Jon Hester is an embodiment of the movements, sounds, and attitude that have continued to push techno and house forward. His energy and enthusiasm brought him all the way from beginnings in Chicago and Minneapolis to his present home base of Berlin.

With music released on Rekids, Klockworks, Deeply Rooted, and performances worldwide at clubbing institutions such as Berghain Berlin, Rex Club Paris, fabric London, and Vent Tokyo, he is equally keen for the fresh intensity of newer clubs dotting South America and South Africa. Jon continues building on the very expression he connected with more than 25 years ago via his label, Participation, an outlet for his own output as well as collaborative efforts with fellow artists in the global techno and house community. The collaborations are realized through a reciprocal exchange of sketches between artists, with artwork consisting of a simple one-line drawing from Hester himself – underscoring the directness, honesty, and immediacy of the music presented.
 
Participation launched in October 2023 with a solo EP from Hester, followed by collaborations with Panorama Bar favorite Cassy, Madrid Techno figurehead Tadeo, Tokyo's legendary DJ Shufflemaster, Swedish mainstay Joel Mull, UK phenomenon The Advent, Icelandic icon Exos, American live act Lady Starlight, and Uruguayan upstart William Arist. With more projects in the works, Participation will continue to inspire, surprise, and delight listeners around the globe, with the impressive depth and breadth of Hester’s tastes and abilities on full display.
