Hot on the heels of two EP releases on Bristol label Shall Not Fade, Felipe Gordon is preparing for the release of his debut album on the important UK imprint. With human contact at an absolute minimum, it’s refreshing to hear an electronic music record that ventures away from the machine in favour of the organic. Gordon’s ability to blend complex jazz instrumentation with acid-licked basslines, golden-age house aesthetics and the cultural sounds of South America is unrivalled; creating distinctive, beautiful and exciting house records from his home in the Colombian capital of Bogotá.

A Landscape Onomatopeya was crafted through the concept of a painting; exploring shades, changes of tone, use of light. “I found myself making tons of music and wondering how to start an album process”, he says, “something with more concept; a long journey between all the different musical influences in my head. I wanted to try to accomplish something with soul, deepness and an inherent melancholia to it. More organic, more human.”

It's been a moment since Munich-based and Rhode & Brown run label Slam City Jams celebrated a release, but after a little hiatus SLC takes the shortcut to neighboring Ingolstadt in order to sign four tracks from Fufi.SNC. The four-tracker, Monsterra Mansion, is a musically homage to 90's Breaks, Rave and (Acid)House-sound with some intercosmic impacts to twirl one around the yet to be opened dancefloors. The b1, Running Home, kicks off fulminantely with its break-beat-bassline enriched with deeply touched chords and a bleepy Acid-line that sound-wise not only adjusts its volume to the other elements but in the course of the track determines the track's momentum before it results in a short but sweet piano intermezzo. Running Home, as the track title suggests, is coming or hitting close to home, musically and geographically and is one of these tunes you certainly cannot and foremost do not want to avoid when putting your dancing shoes back on.

The rain had poured for days, it was a wonder the streets hadn't flooded and the houses washed away. It engulfed the town in a thick smog of darkness; the last time the sun had shown its face around here was too distant a memory. They'd learned to live in the shadows and the gloom, it almost felt comforting now, existing in their own miniature ecosystem.

For most of this year Amsterdam's Knekelhuis have had their focus on home listening sounds; we've had fuzzy chanson-cum-synth-pop jams from Reymour, 80s no wave disco from Electric Party and more recently a compilation of soothing and experimental compositions. But for the next, which arrives just in time for summer and nightlife opening up again, the label jump headfirst back into the club with an EP from Tokyo-based producer KΣITO. Driven by his MPC, he delivers four experimental cuts that connect the dots between Gqom, techno and percussive music, complemented by two hypnotic reimaginations from Tolouse Low Trax and Kӣr.

Exclusive: Ramu - 2049 Rain

The third ride on Magic Carpet comes from Bristol-based Ramu – maybe naming himself after a river in New Guinea, maybe after a fizzy Japanese lemonade or a small village in Bangladesh. As tempting and multifarious these options are Ramu's Magic Carpet debut musically takes the same line: it's a bit of Breakbeat, a whiff of Electro and Jungle, but it is not a mishmash or arbitrariness. It's simply music in its pure- and rawness with three different approaches to it merged in this three tracker. Three however seems to be the magic number for this release – three tracks and the third Magic Carpet ride. The B2, 2049 Rain, is – in defiance of the speculations regarding Ramu's artist name at the beginning – hinting at the eponymous track from the Blade Runner movie. Unsurprisingly 2049 Rain starts as a rather minimalistically held approach with a dark and almost dystopian yet futuristic industrial tone that in the course of time softens. The latter is reached by Ramu adding spacey deep chords and a breakbeat-sequence which is partly enriched with little scratches and HipHop-esque vocals before modulated 8-bit sounds and the beforementioned chords cohere and take this one home – to the clubs where it belongs.

Ramu's EP Ride 03 will be released later this summer on Magic Carpet.

Royston Summers inaugurate their new project with debut single ‘Summer Lovin’’, featuring four different interpretations of the arpeggio fuelled, sun-drenched jam.

Royston Summers is an electronic duo bringing the much loved sounds of 80’s synthesiser driven Electronica and Synthwave, raw 90’s House and the post millennia Indie Dance, Nu Disco and French House phenomena into the future. 2021 will see the pair introduce their sound to the world, showcasing an extensive amalgamation of sounds and styles which twist and turn yet keep a coherent thread as distinctively theirs.

The ‘Full Vocal Mix’ of ‘Summer Lovin’’ leads the release, as the name would suggest the original composition weaves together an amalgamation of vocals from one half of Royston Summers, vocalist Troy Denari, alongside choppy bass notes, winding arps and crunchy drums. The ‘Lovin’ Mix’ then offers a more dubbed take on the original with sporadic vocal hooks worked in throughout.
Following is the ‘Chant Mix’ which strips back the main vocal and focuses solely on the hypnotic tribal like chants before a full ‘Instrumental’ take wraps things up, allowing the vintage synth lines, dynamic drums and robust bass lines to shine on their own.

‘What’s My Derivative?’, is the new label from London/Brighton-based duo Casino Times. Much like the radio show of the same name, WMD? aims to release music that explores the unusual spaces between house & techno, showcasing emerging producers and former guests of the show. Artists are invited to interpret the sound of the label as they see fit, giving them the freedom to explore different styles without the constraints of any rules. Profits from WMD?001 will be directed towards the Trussell Trust, an incredible charity that helps those most in need in the UK [trusselltrust.org].

WMD?001 kicks off with 'How I Came To Find Myself' from mul.apin. The Berlin resident sets the tone for the release by opening with a dramatic, hair-raising string sample.  The track is brushed with gentle synth stabs and a distant melody that dances gracefully across this heavy hitter.

Up next is High Hopes, the mysterious producer that has not made an appearance, since featuring on Casino Times’ 2014 release on Wolf Music Recordings. High Hopes is a master of programming and the hypnotic 'Mind Art' demonstrates just that; a captivating blend of swirling pads and rhythmic elements that weave the listener through a dream-like soundscape.

London-based Baby Rollen delivers a real moment on the release with 'Tyst Eufori', a peak summertime boogie that skilfully deploys a washed-out vocal - perfect for dancefloors under the sun.

Finally, Casino Times closes the release with the psychedelic 'Bloom', a track that’s been a feature in Casino sets for a few years now, with big drums that were made with bass bins in mind.

Almost a year separates us from the release of Tour-Maubourg’s resounding first album Paradis Artificiels. The former “promising producer of French house” (Trax Magazine, 2017) had confirmed all the promises placed in him, even becoming “the flagship” of this scene, and being named album of the month in Tsugi and DJ Mag ES , or artist to follow by Libération. 

To celebrate this 1st anniversary, Pierre d’Estienne d’Orves invites 4 artists on a remix EP of this first long format: the Parisian producer as well as the founder of D.KO Records Flabaire, the sound explorer Molécule, the British duo Wayward as well as as the poet-designer-musician-performer Joseph Schiano Di Lombo. A sweet melting pot of genres between syncopated deep house, electronic musical experience, UKG and ambient. “I wanted to bring together people with whom I share the same breeding ground of influences” explains Tour- Maubourg, who also signs a remix. To open this new EP, Flabaire revisits the flagship track from the album ‘Ode To Love’ with a twist worthy of Larry Heard, as stated in the title of the remix. “This remix is clearly tinted with my love for US deep-house” he explains.

Tragic Revolution, a New Beat track from 1988, gets a uptempo edit by Lennart.
The catchy melodies and dark vocoder voices caught his attention and inspired him to give this song a new twist.

Lennart is a 23 year old producer from The Netherlands who started working at Slow Motion in the beginning of 2021. In the last year he got introduced to a lot of new music (including this track) by Franz Scala and Fabrizo Mammarella.
This edit was made last summer in the studios of Sameheads in Berlin and is now available as a free download for you!

In September 2018, Chat Noir Distribution released the first volume
of its House de France compilation. This release consisted of 21 tracks : 13 already released on different French labels and 8 exclusive titles from artists such as Bellaire, Groove Boys Project, Alva, Too Many Cars, Avorton, OHES, Matthieu Faubourg or Bwi-Bwi. This first volume was a big success with over 2,000,000 streams, 1,600 titles sold
digitally and more than 300 vinyls.
Since then, the French scene kept developping & reinventing itself and new faces have emerged within this artistic bubbling. Career development of some artists presented on the first volume leads us to believe that this project makes more sense than ever. It is a panorama of the parties involved within the new French scene.
Chat Noir Rec. is therefore very proud to announce the forthcoming release of the second volume of this compilation. The main goal remains the same (to highligh the new french scene) but the shape of it changes somewhat. This new project will include 16 exclusive titles in digital and will be accompanied by the release of a «Vinyl Sampler» which will include 6 titles from the digital version. Tracklisting is inspired by the mixed compilations from the 90’s: it is built like a DJ set with an evolution and coherent sequences between the tracks. We will use a promo mix which will feature the initial tracklisting with the mixed titles in order to promote the release.
The project aims to show the diversity of the new French house scene by highlighting different sub-genres of this movement: ambient, deephouse, tech-house, acid, minimal, italodisco, electrofunk… The artists present on this compilation represent the future of our scene and we are very proud to push them forward.

Sweden’s Dorisburg (real name Alexander Burg) has been consistently creating some of the most carefully constructed dancefloor records over the past decade and his various releases for the likes of Aniara, Bossmusik and Northern Electronics are seemingly always in demand with DJs and listeners alike.

His stunning debut album ‘Irrbloss’ on Hivern Discs sold out almost immediately upon release and still fetches high prices on the second-hand market. This is all to say nothing of his involvement in the critically acclaimed duo Genius Of Time with Nils Krogh (aka Arkajo).

While his productions can vary widely from upbeat and melodic to dark and foreboding, one thing is consistent in them all; atmosphere. This latest chapter in the Dorisburg story is no different, with ‘House Organ For The Lonely’ starting the EP off with a slow-building and ominous feel eventually pierced by a delicate synth line. It’s the little details that mark his productions apart, with tiny flourishes throughout imbuing the track with a layer upon layer of texture.
