A7 Edits is back with its second installment from JD Twitch. Following in the fashion of the first record by Stefano Ritteri, Volume 2 offers two edits alongside their sought after original counterparts from Africa Seven favourites' M'Bamina and Tala AM. "Arabica" was the lead track on Tala Andre Marie's 1978 album on Fiesta records. This was the Cameroonian's 5th studio album in a number of years and was already well on his way to cementing himself as part of the Cameroonian hot shots of his time. Proper foot stomping Afro Disco at it's finest really.

Dom Bird is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ from Brisbane, Australia. Known as part of indie-disco band, Mitzi, and one half of house duo, Chord Memory Band, Bird also co-founded the radio show and label, Beats Of No Nation.

Yemayá, Bird’s first solo EP is undeniably intimate. Written and recorded over one night, Yemayá draws inspiration from Afro-Latin culture, blending sounds derived from a synthesizer, guitar and drum machine with samples taken from a recording session with percussionist, Gus Cereijo. 

Here we have Italian Giovanni Damico re-rubbing the the original into a bubbling Italo-Afro scorcher.

Justin Jay and crew are sailing around the world and back for the debut of Fantastic Wax, a new vinyl-only offshoot of Fantastic Voyage. For the inaugural release, they've tapped international man of music Romain FX.

Following up his Tasty Edits EP on Fantastic Voyage last December, the Hong Kong-based DJ, party promoter, and radio host has reworked four hard-to-find African cuts in hopes of giving them a second life. Informed by over a decade of experience playing DJ sets across the globe, all four tracks have been edited and remixed to fit nicely into your rotation.

On deck for our premiere is Gambian Neptune, a track that sails strongly from the onset with a moody melody, spaced out drums and an epic vocal. Arranged (or perhaps rearranged) for maximum effect, RFX navigates us past the intro into a variety of catchy riffs and breakdowns while regularly returning to the vocal hook that ties the song together.

True to the label's founding principles of friendship, fun, and freedom, Fantastic Wax 001 is an exciting dive into music unknown that's set to make waves in the crowded sea of vinyl edits. Check out all four tracks when the record ships August 26th.

Sol Power Sound adds to a string of hot 2019 releases with the Special Features EP by the Sol Power All-Stars, featuring remixes by DJ Spinna and LA's Caserta.
The lead track, Don't You Let Go, features the project's centerpiece, DC-based vocalist Kenny Wesley. His agile tenor swoops and dances over a soulful, multi-layered, dubby excursion. An accomplished songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Wesley's career has significant milestones in the jazz, pop, and progressive soul worlds. We're excited for him to step into the dance music lane with us.
We asked DJ Spinna (one of our musical heroes… but isn't he everyone's?) for a Galactic Soul treatment and he delivered inna signature Spinna style, that’ll make you b-line to the dancefloor.  
Caserta took it classic NYC (with a lil UKG) on his Caserta's At Work flip. Let the record work through the build, the gospel-esque break down, and then open up into a piano and vibes solo. Patience is a virtue, especially with a peak time slapper like this.
If there is such a thing as a keyboard battle track, Number One Station is it. It features New Orleans-based synth wizard Daniel Meinecke over a broken afrobeat-inspired track, letting all his axes get busy. Trust us, you don't want to step to him (that's also Daniel you hear on Don't You Let Go).

Copenhagen's genius-like "Paxton Fettel" has been destroying dancefloors with his piano-heavy, joyous sound recently on labels like Delusions Of Grandeur and Greta Cottage Workshop. "I'd Like To Know You Better" is another fist-pumping jam that oozes positivity. London DJ "Kristy Harper" makes her debut in the production world with the slinky, pared-back disco groove of "Uncle Jungle" - an earworm of a track which she has been consistently pestered for when playing in her sets.

The first set of remixes of Calm’s By Your Side got plenty of props for sound quality as well as their ability to get people grooving. Now the label serves up some more remixes, this time from legendary figures Mark Barrott (international Feel) and My Friend Dario. 

Up first is Barrott, the long time slow motion master whose downtempo, ambient, new age and electronic fusions very much set out the Balearic template way back in the nineties. ‘Space Is My Place’ (Mark’s Re<>Imagination to the Sacred Heart Center) is an enchanting and tropical reworking with exotic percussion and liquid drums that gentle sway to and fro like a raft at sea. It’s another escapist, transportive track from Barrott that takes you to the other side of the world.

Calm - Space Is My Place (Mark Barrott’s Re<>Imagination To The Sacred Heart Center)

Ben Gomori delivers another two carefully-crafted reworks for Sterns Edits, both tried and tested to ensure maximum dancefloor impact.
Guinean guitar master Djessou Mory Kante's blistering style makes for propulsive dancefloor material when paired with a chunked-up house rhythm, with Gomori utilising the stems available to add subtle FX trickery to the intricate melodics of the original. The whole affair builds and rolls in incessant fashion, with another riveting bassline mirroring and counterbalancing the main motifs.
The wild sounds of Senagelese legends Orchestra Baobab's nine-minute-odyssey 'Sibou Odia' is a formidable piece of work that shows the band's stunning musicianship in fine style. With only the original track to work from and no stems, Gomori hones in on the sections where the groove is dominant and the raucous solos potently cut through. The skanking rhythms are intact, with a huge bassline pushing the proceedings forward throughout.

PREMIERE Johannes Albert "The Prance"

Marious Circus :  "Lost My Way To Baia" was one of those tracks where the basic idea came together really fast. Like, RIDICULOUSLY fast! I went into the studio with an idea that I wanted to do something Italo house inspired. After about 25 minutes, I basically had the whole track down. At least the basic groove, bass line, chord theme and main lead. I do generally work quite fast in the studio, but that was quick even for me.
I posted a short snippet of it on Instagram, and I think it's safe to say it's the most unison positive feedback I've ever received on any piece of music I've ever posted on there.
Which obviously freaked me out... After all, half the job is not ruining the good ideas in the process.
Anyway, after a few grueling weeks I did emerge at the other end with a result for Matt Karmil to do his mixing magic to. Which he truly did on this one. Love how he always makes stuff sound as it was intended.
'Atlantis' is a bit more of a downtempo joint. I basically just had a beat going and played some live keys on top of it. Ended up being a bit more of a jazzy number (to the extent that what I do counts as 'jazz'. (It probably doesn't.)
I'm gonna be honest and say that I'm rather proud of this release. Hope you like it too! :-) "

Benga Belt Vol. 1 album is a clear attempt at unifying the pop sounds of Kenya, rooted in the cultural heritage of benga music and drawing creative inspiration from the Benga Belt of Kenya (from Kisumu in Western Kenya to 
Kilifi in South East of Kenya). TUONGEE WAKENYA references the extremely nuanced cross generational and inter-tribal conversations brought forth by the original compositions of Boaz, Jagingo, Missing Rotich, Msupa S, John ‘Kakee', Musyoki Mutua and the Abakisimba Troupe. The album is grounded by the prowess of Udulele John and Michael Ongaro on the guitars while Oduor Bernard Kidum holds 
down the drums.

Jonny Sriraxa & Luci B's indomitable sonic system, Nostalgia Futura is a project born during the first confinement period in Madrid, Spain, at the peak of the Covid-19 crisis. The overwhelming sensations of physical, social, and emotional detention painted the horizon with a nostalgic hue..."so we felt a certain type of nostalgia for this particular future..." And now, in their sets and performances, Jonny Sriraxa and LuciB aim to transmit the entirety of that accumulated energy through rhythms oriented towards the dance floor--evoking reflection through motion-- and flowing across a variety of genres, histories, and influences that fuse the old, new, and still-evolving.
