THAT WAS TO BE OF A LIKE MONOTONY is about rusty harmony. The work is based on a Bach chorale which is "destroyed" in various ways: notes are erased, replaced with silence or noise, rubbed out in clouds of sound, fragmented and repeated again and again. In an attempt to imitate a worn and out-of-tune organ, the double bass and saxophone are de-tuned, respectively a quarter tone and 25 cents and collides with the accordion's normal tuning - in a universe dominated by extremely weak dynamics.

That was to be of a like monotony (2021/22)

As the title suggests it consists of small and at times microscopical or object-like shapes, abruptly or not abruptly changing back and forth from one to another, coming back as the same or as something new, or never coming back. The order of the shapes are up to the performer to choose.

A "retouching" of Webern's Piano Variations, Op. 27. I have stolen the last movement of the piece, and "brushed out" Webern's own voice: I have removed all accidentals, all dynmaic variations, all articulations and replaced breaks with long sustained notes which is spread across the ensemble's 7 instruments, and I have decreased the tempo drastically.
