THAT WAS TO BE OF A LIKE MONOTONY is about rusty harmony. The work is based on a Bach chorale which is "destroyed" in various ways: notes are erased, replaced with silence or noise, rubbed out in clouds of sound, fragmented and repeated again and again. In an attempt to imitate a worn and out-of-tune organ, the double bass and saxophone are de-tuned, respectively a quarter tone and 25 cents and collides with the accordion's normal tuning - in a universe dominated by extremely weak dynamics.
