From Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas to up and coming acts like Atella and Cavego it’s fair to say Eskimo Recordings are pretty well known for championing the cosmic sounds of Nordic Disco. On their latest track finding trip to Scandinavia though the Belgium label have returned with something with its eye less focused on the stars and more on… well cars, definitely cars. “All electric, no gas.”

‘Drive’ the new single from Norwegian producers Tarjei Nygård & Stockhaus, featuring the unmistakable vocals of 80s electro legend The Egyptian Lover, is nothing less than an unabashed 808 driven, low end anthem. From its abrupt bass stabs and robotic percussion to its even more robotic vocoders ‘Drive’ is the kind of track that will have you digging out your old lino and poppin’ & lockin’ with the best of them.

Starting life as an instrumental, recorded when Stockhaus and Nygård spent a stormy night in the studio laying down new tracks, the pair knew they had something good on their hands but still felt like the track was just missing a certain something. Or rather a certain someone, as years before the pair had hung out with The Egyptian Lover at Nygård’s NuMusic Festival and really who could be better for the job?

As luck would have it Nygård was set to be in LA for work a few years later and what’s more the man behind the classic ‘Egypt, Egypt’ was not only in town but loved the track. All that was left to do was quickly book the legendary Skip Saylor Studios (where the likes of Ice-T and Guns N’ Roses had recorded in the past) and get that jam in the bag.

The end result? A timeless, chrome plated, fuel injected electro-bass track, complete with two ‘Club’ mixes where Nygård’s poked his head under the hood, given the track a spot of extra fine-tuning and thrown in some neon under-lighting for good measure. The perfect soundtrack whether you’re cruising around town in your low-rider or attempting an ill-advised head spin or human caterpillar in the club.

‘Drive’ also marks a welcome return to Eskimo Recordings for Tarjei Nygård who, as well as releasing singles on labels such as Prins Thomas’ Full Pupp and Lovefingers’ ESP Institute, previously featured on Eskimo’s ‘The Orange Collection’ compilation with the timeless track ‘Flog’. For Stockhaus meanwhile ‘Drive’ marks his debut on the label and is, remarkably, his 1st single of the year, a nice change of pace after he set himself, and completed, the task of releasing 100 songs in 2019. Maybe he knew something we didn’t.

One of the most vibrant and interesting records released in 2021 Belgian-Japanese artist Aili’s debut EP 'Dansu', recorded with fellow Belgian Transistorcake, caught the music industry’s attention with its bricolage of Kosmiche Musik, Acid House, Electronica, Disco & Leftfield Pop. Now as clubs across the world begin to reopen Eskimo Recordings have brought in South Korean DJ & producer Shubostar to give, 'Pari Pari', one of the EP’s standout tracks a fresh rub for the nighttime crew.

Whilst the original floated by in an otherworldly haze, Shubostar anchors her remix of the track with a pulsating Italo bass line, four/four kick drum and the kind of massive gated snares that will be familiar to anyone who caught the Mexico based producer's contribution to Eskimo’s recent 'Next Wave Acid Punx' compilation.

Introducing a scratchy disco guitar riff and washes of synths Shubostar creates the perfect vehicle for Aili’s vocals."Aili's unaffected, almost naive singing touched my heart, before her Japanese lyrics brought me right back to my childhood. That plus the tracks’s dramatic synthesizers sound gave me lots of ideas,” explains Shubostar.

With more to come soon from the young Belgian-Japanese artist, Shubostar's remix perfectly complements the original’s neon lit pop, perfect for dancing the night away before heading home to once more revisit Aili’s startling debut.

Aili x Transistorcake - Pari Pari (Shubostar Remix - Edit)

Released earlier this summer, ‘What You Need’, the third collaboration between longstanding Eskimo DJ/producer George Bakalakos AKA NTEIBINT & fellow Athenian Matina Sous Peau was a beautiful echo of 70s disco, a sound that Italian producer Spiller has now brought to the fore with his new remix.

Most famous for his massive 2000 hit ‘Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)’, Spiller has proven himself to be equally adept at crafting underground club classics over the years and with this remix the Italian producer has expertly wielded his scalpel, cutting and looping the track & snatches of the vocals to create a taut, disco-house number.

Understated but undeniably funky, Spiller’s remix of ‘What You Need’ is the perfect track for when you just need to lock the crowd into a hypnotic groove and let them do their thing, perfect for both mirror ball lit dance floors and roller discos alike.

“This song got us through puberty,” explains Maruyama, “and whilst we were recording the new EP and needed a break we decided to play around with it as a kind of challenge and loved how it sounded. We translated the lyrics into Japanese as that felt more personal, et voilà! We hope that one day we can invite Fergie on stage to perform it with us!”

Much like their exhilarating debut EP which saw them feted as one of 2021’s hottest new talents by Belgian music press and radio, Aili’s cover of 'Glamorous' is an invitation to dance & let your inhibitions go and just the thing to wake us from our winter slumber and warm us up for their next release.

"Toki Doki means: "Sometimes. Sometimes I have stress, sometimes I’m in fear." So, the song’s about how you can beat that by ‘genki’ and by throwing a pillow around," explains singer Aili Maruyama. "We went for an up tempo song that commands you to stop what you're doing, start dancing and just let everything go for a moment. Let’s go!"

Franz Matthews & Local Suicide - Tutan Jamon (Chaim Remix)

Keeping things nice and sleazy Parisian producer Simon Says covers English synth-pop band Blancmange's 1982 album track 'Feel Me'. Transforming the song into the kind of outrageously funky slice new wave disco that could have sat proudly on an old Ze Records compilation its low slung groove is now sure to soundtrack as many illicit 'Cinq a Sept' assignations as it is sweaty dancefloor moments. Simon Says - Feel Me (Yuksek Extended Remix)

In their short but successful career Belgian-Japanese duo Aili's music has often pulled from the 80s, whether that be angular post-punk bass lines, body shocking electro-rhythms, acid house bleeps or the neon soaked synth-pop of the era. Now, as the title of their new single 'Make Me Rich' suggests Aili Maruyama & Orson Wouters are going one further and also embracing the true spirit of the era, demanding the kind of hyperinflated luxury lifestyle rarely enjoyed by bands since Duran Duran had to downsize their yachts.

"'Make Me Rich' originated during one of our writing sessions where we also took a close look at our finances," explains singer Aili. "We realised that there were a lot of red numbers in our budget, which I guess makes Excel the biggest source of inspiration for this song. We dreamed of how nice it would be if we could live off our music and set about answering the eternal question of "What would you do if you were rich?" So, for those keeping track here's our wishlist: ride a horse, ride a dolphin and ride a tiger. Anyone who wants to help us realise this, you can find our bank account number on the song's bridge."

Originally conceived as an emotional song replete with Japanese samples from the 1920s, aggressive cutting and pasting in the studio saw 'Make Me Rich' evolve into its final form, a chrome plated electro-punk number that pulses with intent and explodes into a defiant call to arms and which, if nothing else, might make you forget your own money worries for a few joyous minutes.

Having made their debut on Eskimo in 2020 with the 'Altered States' EP and following acclaimed remixes for the likes of Polo & Pan, Tensnake and Local Suicide, French duo You Man return to the label to continue their exploration of the psyche by the means of music. Third Eye betrays the influence of You Man's misspent youth crossing the Franco-Belgium border in search of fun, it's throbbing strobe like EBM pulse not only ready to activate the titular psychic phenomenon but also provides a direct line to those all night raves in Ghent, that both inspired their musical adventures and birthed Eskimo Recordings.

You Man - Third Eye [Eskimo Recordings]

Swedish producer Ivan Berggren, aka Paresse, returns to Eskimo Recordings with the 'Animachine' EP,  4 brand new tracks of beautiful electronica that joins the dots between the cosmic disco of his fellow Scandinavian producers, the early Trance sound of Frankfurt labels like Eye Q and the even earlier machine music of bands like Kraftwerk.

It is the latter band whose philosophical fingerprints, at least, are most visibly present on this new EP that was inspired by Berggren's wrestling with the age-old question of just what we are, simply biological machines running on electrical impulses and chemical reactions, or vessels filled with some ineffable spirit. Anima is a stately 100bpm coda to the EP filled with disorientating overdriven synths that spiral in and out as the track marches on in robotic lockstep, a heady combination of early Trance, ambient and Italo sounds, perfect to crash out on a bean bag to in the back room of a club and debate the nature of humanity to with a perfect stranger.

With releases on labels like Eskimo, Frau Blau and Correspondant, and collaborations with artists such as Titiyo, Paresse's small but perfectly formed discography that's draw upon the sounds of electronica, dub, Italo disco its easy toes why his records have found favour with DJs from across the musical spectrum from Yuksek and Jamie Jones to The Organism and Phillipi & Rodrigo onto the likes of Purple Disco Machine and Ewan Pearson.

Paresse - Journey of the Heart [Eskimo Recordings]

Fango returns with his second album titled GEA, a ten-track trip of eclectic electronica panning across various moods and tempos. Flexing his matured production credits, Fango fuses rock, disco, and psychedelic influences, meticulously put together on his machines resulting in a spectrum of sounds to satisfy most palettes. It's a serenade from Gea to Ouranos, the Greek gods of earth and sky.
