I wrote this during the lockdown in early June 2020 when I was feeling particularly in need of serenity and comfort (NB: this is the same piece as "Ripples", below, just a different recording).

Ripples (version 2)

I am a London-based composer and pianist and specialise in writing piano music, songs and chamber music for piano and strings. I unashamedly write music that I would choose to listen to, without worrying unduly about categories and trends.

I regularly incorporate these works into chamber music recitals I give with like-minded fellow musicians, usually in London churches.  Recent musical projects have included "Triptych: Arrivals, Ballad and Union" (a trio for the rather unusual combination of violin, trumpet and piano), a piano duet that channels the sound of birds singing above a flowing stream, and a setting of a prayer in the ancient Avestan language for an opera singer who is also a trained Zoroastrian priest. In my other life I am an anthropologist, currently undertaking a three-year postdoctoral research project (2021-24)at University College London funded through a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship, entitled “‘Progressive Islamophilia’ and the British Queer-Muslim intersection”. Previous doctoral research focused on belonging and social identity in a neighbourhood in Mumbai.
