Artist Info:
Expression was definitely a burden to Awka as ordinary ways of communication just never seemed enough. As time went by, this need connect with others became an obsession and a search, in which digging new and old records could be a relief or a clue. By coincidence or fate, at the age of 15 Awka moved to Munich and got in touch with german electronic music culture, making the first contact with synthesizers and experimenting a whole new world of different music styles. A blended and unique cultural background was not the only result of this life and art experience. Finally, Awka found the means to reach out to others and to get his voice heard. It was clear the words were and couldn’t be enough as what was there to be said couldn’t be understood, but only felt.

Back to his home town, in Rio de Janeiro, Awka’s plans finally came out of paper as his career had it’s definitive start. After a few solo presentations, Awka formed the “Tenth Column” duo, which’s talent lead to the famous label party RIO ME residency and to performances on renowned gigs such as D-EDGE, Club 88, Warung Tour and RAWW X ROOM. On his current solo career Awka has been part of the crew that delivered the greatest electronic music carnival party ever seen in Rio - The “Bloco Ame”, also being a flashy name in Warung Closing Summer 2019, meeting Edu Schwartz, who would soon become his actual partner in starting his label: Words Not Enough.

Awka’s purpose is now fulfilled through his tracks and productions. On a new phase, his ways of connection are being reproduced by exponential labels such as Akbal Music, Lump Records, Pipe & Pochet, Seven Villas e Warung Recordings. Not to mention his 2 reinterpretations on the english band “Elder Island” tracks, which together sum up to 600.000 plays on spotify.

Awka @ Melodic Therapy #121 - Brazil

Dear Listener,

From the depths comes this gripping new collection of stories from Paris-based producer Davka, and Mexico City-based Leon Lobato. 

On the title track, De Profundis, the pair fuse pulsing bass kicks with electrifying hand drums to underpin ethereal vocals and melancholic synth notes. The result is a thumping journey of sound, textured and layered with hidden gems throughout each of its nearly 8-minute run time.

The inspiration for the track is Oscar Wilde’s letter to an old acquaintance, written from prison. The first half of the correspondence recalls the heyday of their extravagant lifestyles — parties, dinners, hotels. The second half documents Wilde’s discovery of his own spirituality whilst in prison as a direct result of the excesses of his former life.

If Davka and Lobato’s opener De Profundis is the regret-tinged peak of an opulent and indulgent life, then Calm is the exploration of a softer, more introspective side of life.

Pumping drums give way to lighter kicks, kissed by piano flourishes and beautiful synthetic melodies. Calm is, as the name suggests, a peaceful, hypnotic ride that is packed with depth and feeling.

It leads to the EP’s closer, Le Chant De L’Eau, a track that pushes the project into uncharted territory. The hand drums and thicker beats of ‘De Profundis’ return, but this time they are layered over enchanting melodies and the sound of a single drop of water, playing on a loop.

The track is a perfect finish to the project: sweet, alluring, and very rhythmic, intertwining all of the themes that Davka and Lobato explore on the first two tracks of the EP.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the project comes with a package of remixes from Greg Nairo, Cocho, and George X, who each apply their signature sound to the work already done by Davka and Lobato, taking the cuts in brand new, unforeseen directions.

One of my favourite moments of the year is when I work on a new podcast. I love playing live for people, which is, don’t get me wrong, amazing. One other aspect of what I do is working in the studio, I truly love the creation of a new podcast. My true desire while making it is to create a journey what gives the listeners (you) the feeling that they are being taken on an adventure. It’s like going out for a day trip and not knowing what to expect and what is coming. And while making edits, remixes etc I already get very excited while picturing the sensation on your end. That’s a very fulfilling feeling when I receive all your heartfelt messages where you share the journey with me that I created for you. All the emotions that lie in musical creations are so powerful. And yes, while creating I sometimes shed a tear where I get touched myself by the journey. After recording the audio it’s time for the artwork. So I spend time on that while playing the podcast for myself. And the result you are seeing here :-) So….long story short, while being in the jungle for a few days last week I finished this new and freshly squeezed Deep & Sexy for you. "The mix is pure old skool, every track is an original early to mid-90s tune (with the exception of Rain which is a late 80s Acid track and the end song which is a 2021 release, but a cheeky nod to a 90s classic) It starts off with some Italo House, which is this dreamy blend of Italo, Balearic and Piano house which I'm really loving at the moment, but is often too laid back to play out. I dip into some Dream House towards the end, which is that happy intersection between house and trance, which I'm also really enjoying right now. There are tracks from some iconic classic labels such as UR, Dance Mania, Sex Mania, Nu Groove, Warp and Stress Records - so some serious nods to Chicago, NYC, Detroit as well as UK house. It's very reminiscent of the sounds that were played when I first started clubbing and DJ-ing, so it's a real nod to my humble beginnings."

Geboren in Thüringen, die Elektroszene lernte er in Frankfurt/Main schätzen und lieben. Auf kleineren Partys mit Cliquen hat er öfters die Scheibe gedreht. Tracks an die 15000 füllen seine Platte. Mit Rialex übernahm er 2015 mehrere Podcastskanäle und gründete Herz & Klang, aus World Tour Diary wurde Herz & Klang Friends. DJ´s aus der ganzen Welt waren Gast bei deren Podcasts. Als sie zusammen Serenity Heartbeat (@serenity-heartbeat-music) übernahmen wurden viele neue DJ´s für die Podcasts auf die beide aufmerksam. Es folgten coole kleinere Events/Afterhours und Afterworks... 2020 war ein kleiner Break und er brach Privat die Zelte in Frankfurt ab und zog nach Köln. Er lernte Soyos (@soyosmusic) (damals PingPong @pingpongpage) über das Netz kennen und entschloss sich dazu mit Serenity Heartbeat neu anzufangen.

Musik ist für ihn Leidenschaft, ein ausgleich zum Alltag.. Seine Tracks spiegeln die Gegensätze zum dem Leben was man sonst nie schätzt das Leben das besonders ist. Musik verbindet und auch wenn es nur 60min sind, die Reise werdet ihr spüren. reisst mit ihn und spürt die 118BPM unter eurer Haut.

Born in Tehran, Iran, and raised in an artistic environment from painting to architecture and graphic design.  He started music production 2 yrs ago and came up with his first release "FueAsi" which was released with one of the top labels in the industry "mirrors Toronto".

Passionate about creating groovy and percussive music with mysterious and esoteric melodies on top.

"2018 at BM was only my second burn and after my first (4 years prior) I did not think it could get any better… But this year somehow was 100 times better! I think this was due to camping with the amazing Pink Mammoth crew and family. Arriving there a few days early to help set up was incredible to acclimatise and hang out. So many people at PM are already close friends, but this year I met loads of new people who, I can now call family. 

At my first BM I also played at PM, although none of us can work out how I ended up playing there specifically haha! We think Derek knew I was coming and asked if I would like to play. Thankfully he did, because I instantly fell in love with the camp and playing there. Four years on, (and playing many times for PM at their events) it felt like coming home. Its so satisfying playing somewhere where you feel completely relaxed to play what you want to play, in a perfect environment.  

This set also was made extra special by an amazing (pre planned) marriage proposal mid set between Harrison and Felicity. Harrison had told me a couple days prior that my song “In Love” was one of his and Felicity's favourite songs that they shared together. He wanted to propose and asked if I could play the song for them whilst he did so. I of course was completely honoured so myself and Harrison arranged that I would play it mid set, about an hour in and would give him a nod to signal it. With his broken ankle (he’d broken it just a day prior!), they both climbed up onto the speaker, and to Felicity’s surprise, just as “In Love” started to come in, he proposed in front of the whole crowd! Of course she said yes ;)

So you’ll hear in this mix the volume dip at the start of “In Love”, which is a lovely memento forever recorded in this mix! Hope you all enjoy! Tim.”
