This song is a tribute to James Brown and a reminder that no matter what problems you have in life, a positive outlook and a great sense of humor will get you through just about anything. Deep Jesus has always had a cult following amongst our family.  One and half years ago at our very first Desert Hearts Festival, we faced one of the most extreme weather weekends of our lives. The week leading up to the event we watched the forecast go from perfect weather all week to 20 degree lows with high winds during the weekend. The first two days of the event had a very radical survival aspect to the whole thing.  But oddly enough, it was that need for survival that brought our original crew together in the way that it did. It united our group of relative strangers and turned us into a family.  When Deep Jesus played the very first Desert Hearts sunrise on Sunday morning, it was like the party gods descended from heaven to reward us for making it through the weekend. The weather was absolutely perfect and that sunrise was one of the most incredible experiences of our lives. It was at that moment during his set that we knew Desert Hearts was destined for greatness. It was at that moment we knew nothing could stop us.

Fast forward to our Spring Festival in 2014 and it was like reliving our first party all over again. Not only did we stand our ground against a helicopter a squadron of police SUVs, but the weather on Friday night was absolutely insane. Through the wind, rain, and snow, the peak of the extreme came during Deep Jesus’s Midnight Mass. The weather assaulted the dance floor and DJ booth as our family huddled together under whatever makeshift shelter they could find. Somehow, against all odds, the music went on. It’s with our pleasure to take you back to that eventful Friday night at Desert Hearts when we celebrated Midnight Mass with Deep Jesus.

I’ve known Marbs since we were little groms back in elementary school. I remember he was always an extremely talented artist and used to rock a “Pink is Punk” rash guard while we surfed together. Gangster status I know.  We drifted apart when we went to different high schools until hilarious circumstances brought us back together in college. My freshman year of college I fell in love with a girl who decided to take a semester off due to a family emergency. After trying to make our long-distance relationship work for a couple months, I remember how excited I was when she was finally coming back to school. I got flowers ready for her, etc and we were going to meet up at a friend’s party. So there I was, ecstatic to see my girlfriend, and she walks into the room right up to me and says, “Hi Mikey, this is my new boyfriend, Marbs.” So ya, that’s the story of how Marbs stole my freshman girlfriend hahaha.  8 years later and this girl long gone, Marbs and I still can’t believe we ended up being best friends and business partners. Love is a funny thing and that’s what Desert Hearts is all about. Hope you enjoy this beautifully dark 4am on Saturday Night mix from Marbs, Live @ Desert Hearts. Enjoy! <3

Jay Tripwire was the only DJ at our Desert Hearts Spring Festival that played 2 sets throughout the weekend. We couldn't be happier about that fact. Jay's first set took place during the worst part of Friday night's freak rainstorm. Unfortunately, it was riddled with technical difficulties as we literally had to cover the DJ booth and all the Funktion-Ones with whatever tarps we could find to protect him from the elements. The next day at high noon, one of our DJs wasn't able to make his set so we knew we had to give Jay a shot at redemption. And we're so glad we did. Jay's redemption set ended up being one of the best of the weekend. So sit back, relax, and take a trip through Saturday day with Jay Tripwire - Live @ Desert Hearts.

We owe a lot of our musical influence to our boys Yanick & Zack from Bells & Whistles. Originally hailing from Switzerland & Russia and transplanted in San Diego, these were some of the first guys that really started turning us onto true underground dance music. They opened our eyes to a whole new world of music and for that we're forever thankful. The boys eventually moved to San Francisco for the music scene, but when we finally started DH we knew we wanted to bring them on board as Resident DJs and eventually Desert Hearts Records Artists. With an incredible Bells & Whistles EP coming soon on the label, we hope you enjoy this spacey trip through Friday night at our 2 Year Anniversary Festival.

It's safe to say that Desert Dwellers are the most OG desert DJs that we know. In fact, Treavor Moontribe was one of the founding members of Moontribe Collective, the original community of California desert dancers who've been gathering under the full moon since 1993. We owe a ton of our inspiration to Moontribe and we might even go so far to say there wouldn't be a Desert Hearts without our founding fathers of the desert scene.

While we've had Treavor Moontribe absolutely kill it for us in the past, it's his ultra psychedelic Desert Dwellers project with partner Amani Friend that really made international waves. Predominantly a downtempo project, we first heard about a super rare techno / tech house set performed by Desert Dwellers through our partner Kristoff. And he just wouldn't stop raving about it...

Honestly we had absolutely no idea what to expect from a techno set by Desert Dwellers other than the good word of one of our partners. Their set was the one true wildcard on our lineup and it ended up being one of the most radical sets of the weekend. With the first 1.5 hours of the set being all original material, Desert Dwellers pulled off one of the best sets we've ever heard at Desert Hearts.

With a heartfelt nod to those who paved the way for us, we hope you enjoy Live @ Desert Hearts- Desert Dwellers - 018 as much as we do. <3

It is our great pleasure to announce Atish as our latest Resident.  From the first time Atish played our festival, we knew it was a match made in heaven.  There are few DJs with as much charisma, skill, and heart than Atish.  Not to mention he's as weird as they come, which is just the way we like it ;)
 
Atish is much more than just a DJ and the music he plays is more than just songs.  His performances cannot be described as an act, but rather an all-encompassing experience: deep, emotive, ecstatic. It is more than the beautiful sounds emanating from the speakers, though, it is also the man behind the decks: warm, compassionate, inviting. In an age of oversized DJ egos there is still an artist who is devoted to connecting with his audience, a humble soul with a pure passion for music. This is Atish.

(Philip Jung) and The Martinez Brothers. He is also one half of the production duo "Thick as Thieves" with his production partner Ray Kang (Yoshitoshi). 

He has performed at almost every notable club, festival and underground in the SF- Bay area including: Monarch, Mighty, The ENDUP, Supperclub, Triple Crown, Ruby Sky, Wish, Temple, Anu, Public Works, The Phoenix Hotel, Monroe, How Weird, Lovefest, Superhero St Fair, Decompression, Body & Soul, Robot Heart; and around the world in Miami (WMC), Minneapolis, Denver, Los Angeles, Amsterdam (NL), Hiroshima (Japan); and the much loved, annual Pink Mammoth parties at BRC, Burning Man.

Currently, he has been busy in the studios with production. In 2012 he did a remix for AND()'s “Akuma H23” on Looq records. The release was well received and even peaked to #35 in its category on Beatport. Then he followed with a strong, lush summer deep house remix of Momu's “ComingUp” which got re-released on Loöq's Best 12 of 2012. He latest remix of Momu’s “Rising” which debued on Pink Mammoth's Sunrise set on Robot Heart is already getting much DJ support and praise.
