brings back similar memories of the music building at OttawaU in the mid 90s.. i would sneak in and steal a piano room, and would alternate between playing my heart out and teaching myself the Real Fake Book, and just sitting and listening to everyone else doing their own thing in their own not-quite soundproof rooms... Good times.

Striking and original, Jonathan! Really enjoyed this one. One of my kids had a studio at Temple Works in Leeds (worth Googling), the basement was so vast people were warned not to enter. They once had to send a search party in to find some lost youths!

Great down to Earth feel.  Raw and heartfelt

This track is a time capsule with strings, a haunting walk through memory’s basement corridors. Jonathan doesn’t just recall Westbeth, he resurrects it. You hear the stone, the steel doors, the hum of ghosts rehearsing decades ago. Those antiquated guitar moves? They're perfect here. Not dated, deliberate. Reverberating textures tumble forward and then pull back, like you’ve turned a wrong corner and ended up somewhere deeply familiar. It’s dissonant, nostalgic, messy in the way memory should be. You don’t need a polished take when the raw ache is the point. 💨 The kettle rattled low and said, “That opening chord hit like a heavy door swinging shut behind me. I was locked in, clanging pipes and all. Sounded like someone mic’d up a memory” 🧀 The grater scraped a little louder than necessary and said, “You can hear the grit in the corners, that’s real texture right there” 🧃 The juice press tilted thoughtfully and said, “I’d call this a full bodied emotional cleanse, with extra pulp”

Just for fun. 

I shared a rehearsal space in the basement of Westbeth Artist Housing (please see the photo) in the late 70’s. This music has to do with my dream-memory of the place.

The basement was labyrinthine. Until a few years ago, I still had recurring dreams of that environment. It was constructed of grey painted cinder block or some such stony material. There were many bands in many rooms down there, and as you walked the halls you’d hear all the musics leaking out from under steel doors in cacophony. Often you’d hear the band in the next cell right through your own stone wall as you were playing. That made it hard to record in there. We did it anyway. 

The sonic qualities of this recording remind me of those hallways as do some of the somewhat antiquated guitar moves. And by the way, I love antiquated guitar moves!

A window pops up on your screen, there's a prize , it says you've been selected, so you click on the link and your computer gets infected
You get a fake email from your bank asking you to update your account
And when you log in the next day your balance shows a zero amount

Trying to steal your credit card so they can get an amazon prime order soon

President Zelenskyij and the Ukrainian people are heroes! We all must support them and be kind to them. Dear President Trump - You may not abandon Ukraine. They have a hell there. President Putin and his government must be completely out of their minds. They are sooo cruel. How do the Russian people react?? Are they ashamed?? They are probably being deceived!

It is hard when friends are abandoning them - they get so sad
Their hearts will break now when companions are leaving them
but we don’t want any maniacs to rule the whole world
we want to have wise folks to rule


It was hard when neighbors attacked their land - they were surprised
They can’t understand what is the reason for this bloody attack
they haden’t done anything nasty which could motivate this assault
the motive was probably a sign of greed


The invadors show signs of megalomania which are severe
it’s very serious and there are paranoic signs as well
but we don’t want any maniacs to rule the whole world
we want to have wise folks to rule

This song began when Joe, feeling a bit nostalgic, wrote the lyrics and composed it on his acoustic guitar. He recorded it and sang it with expert harmonies, then decided to share it with Eclectic Collective. We were all very excited to get work on our second song with Joe, as we all admire his songwriting.

  First up was Tez this time, oddly enough. He was able to identify all the fill spots and light up the solo without the rest of us even adding anything yet. Next came Ken, who usually goes first, adding his steady grooving drums and tasty percussion. Once the drums were down, Josh completed the rhythm section by adding his fretted bass. He also worked out an organ part to give the whole sound a bit of thickness. Also adding some thickness and texture, Stephen added a clean electric rhythm part, as well. 

  Once we had it in can we asked Stephen to mix and produce it for us, which he did in his always expert fashion. 

  This, as mentioned, is Eclectic Collective's second song with Joe, and we all enjoyed bringing it to life with him. He's a wonderful collaborator and an all around good dude. Do yourself a favor and go check out his page, which is rich in great songs. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.
