DJ Shadow presents his brand new double album Our Pathetic Age now available on Mass Appeal.  A surprise addition of three bonus tracks has also been revealed, featuring Pusha T and Barny Fletcher.  The bonus tracks will be available on DSPs with the release of the album.  

Our Pathetic Age represents an intensely creative period for the pioneering musician.  The first album features 11 original, instrumental tracks that include his deepest dive yet into original composition and his first fully orchestrated piece of music.  The second is a full album of vocal collaborations, ranging from Run The Jewels, Nas and Dave East to Samuel T. Herring, Paul Banks and Wiki, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon, and Brooklyn MC Stro. Shadow also reunited with his early Solesides collaborators Lateef The Truthseeker and Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), and partnered with fellow Bay Area musicians Fantastic Negrito and Jumbo is Dr.ama.

The Shadow of Raindrops is a curious piece of art. Is it poetry? Is it hip hop? What genre is it? Who gives a shit? What genre are you?

How does the juicy gossip fresh from the mouth of imposter syndrome somehow render itself so seductive?

Why is self-acceptance so hard to get? Or is it give? And if so, where is the donation drop box?

What does it mean to Mike Pence yourself? Do you even want to know?

How meta can you get? Can your tongue taste itself? Do you meditate about meditating while you meditate?

What would Descartes say about a pigeon? Is it up to the raisin to choose where the raisin belongs, even if the raisin feels its truth lies within the potato salad?

When your ego implodes and the subtext of every conversation you have is the lingering question, “I know I’m tough to love, but why are you so elusive?”

Can you hear your own voice?

The Shadow of Raindrops is spinning around a carousel full of emotional baggage and nobody is flying for awhile.

This art project was written during a summer in Paris, revised in Amsterdam, and recorded in Detroit in a forty-eight-hour binge of creativity with Eddie Logix in the fall of 2019. We worked hard, and we celebrated often; I hope you do, too.
