Dr. Jonathan Godfrey began his collegiate studies in guitar at the age of 16. Since then he has been the laureate of several performance and composition competitions and has concertized throughout the United States and in South Korea. He has recorded solo performances for albums released by the Embassy of Spain and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Hailed on NPR Houston’s Front Row as “…a very talented young American composer” with his works having been described as “…invitingly poetic” (Boston Globe), Godfrey’s original solo, chamber, and choral works have been performed and commissioned internationally by such groups as the Petar Jankovic Ensemble, Mexico City’s Tuumben Paax, New York’s Goliard Ensemble, Sarasota's Trio Voila, and São Paulo’s Villa Duo, as well as by numerous international prize-winning solo guitarists. In 2011 he was named grand prize winner of the Boston GuitarFest International Composition Competition for his now oft-programmed Sonatina for solo guitar. 

Godfrey counts among his former guitar and composition teachers Jason Vieaux, Ernesto Bitetti, P.Q. Phan, Paul Schoenfield, and Aaron Travers,. He holds his Bachelor of Music from LaGrange College, his Master of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and his Doctor of Music from Indiana University.
