It’s been more than a week since Russia has invaded Ukraine, destroying Ukrainian cities and shattering the lives of millions of people, whose world will never be the same again. The Ukrainian music and culture community is devastated by the shocking crimes of the Russian government. We wish for peace in our country above all, and we are doing everything in our power to support the people of Ukraine.

Right now It is most critical to raise funds for the Ukrainians bravely defending their country, and for those, who had to leave their homes behind. Therefore, Standard Deviation has joined forces with @Mystictrax — a Ukrainian label run by Lostlojic, for our most important release: РАЗОМ ЗА УКРАЇНУ / TOGETHER FOR UKRAINE — a compilation by 65 Ukrainian and International artists to be sold exclusively via Bandcamp. All profits from this release will be split between the following charity funds, supporting the people of Ukraine:

- The ‘Return Alive’ Fund, helping at the Ukrainian front 
- National Bank of Ukraine Fundraising Account for Humanitarian Assistance 
- ‘Ukraine Pride’ Fund for LGBTQIA+ soldiers and LGBTQIA+ people affected by the war
- ‘Голос Дітей’ Fund, helping children affected by the war

The Lagaffe boys have a special one for you. Lagaffe 10 marks the 10th EP in our vinyl series and serves as a perfect way to end our 10th year in existence. To mark this occasion we are releasing a 4 tracker with our founders and label regulars.

The EP opens up with Cohen Social Club by Flexi Leifs aka Felix Leifur. Our man Felix lost his drum machines last spring but luckily he found a guitar and some drums. The track starts off with suspicious sounding guitar notes that somehow up as pure beauty, giving hope in the darkest of places. Frodo with the ring stuff, if you know what I mean. Playful reverbs and echos give the tune the classic Felix Leifur feel to it!

Moff & Tarkin has the next track "Pure Fury", some breakbeats and cheesy disco vocals, why change a winning recipe?

Next up is "We are not alone " by label boss Jonbjörn. I think this is what Elton John meant when he said "thank god for those electro bangers!" Solid 909 drum work featuring dramatic chords and some original vocal work. If you can spot the sample write us on Soundcloud and you might win a year's worth of LaCafe Tales!

With "Að handan" Viktor Birgiss comes back to the label in style. Our mastering engineer described it as having the loudest kickdrum in history, imagine that! Lo fi dub sounding drums interlaced with atmospheric chords, made for those late night intimate moments on the dancefloor, again Frodo with the ring stuff, if you know what I mean.

OO Recordings is proud to present a damn near perfect blend of high-flying experimentation, moody ambient and dancefloor-worthy remixes in the form of an EP by the Ukrainian multi-talent Smezkh.

Taking the listener into a digitally distorted visit to a universal state of place known as a village, Smezkh paints an audio picture that is tranquil at times, yet surrounds the listener with hectic - even disturbing - moments that underline both the beauty that prevails in the world and the hardship of the time the artist and his peers find themselves in. Hope and universal lightness always exist but this is clouded by the terrors of mankind. A product of a disastrous time in their home country and the world at large, it is nearly impossible to hear the hardship that has engulfed the creative process from which this EP came. Even with cases of serious power outages, turmoil and personal distress, this EP is a testament to the very creative drive that makes us human and proves that art in many forms is a way to capture the spirit of an era and not just the facts and statistics.

This is an EP that deserves your ears, and no short-handed descriptions of the tracks could ever do it justice. The personal view of the artist on the release is to be heard and not explained. The EP is finished off by remixes by fellow ukrainian Revshark, the Helsinki-based Fleur Amser and Iceland’s creative mastermind Jónbjörn.

Artist’s note:
‘The tracks have eloquent titles for a reason, like the names of paintings or Ukrainian poems. These are memories, strong memories of childhood, summer holidays in the village, my great-grandmother, grandmother, cherry blossoms, a mud hut, and a big willow tree in front of the yard. But memories pass quickly, just like childhood. That's why it's important to preserve this treasure, it helps us to live on.’
