Federation JI is the new project from Icelandic producer Felix Leifur and Japanese artist Daichi Saito. Known for his house, electro, and techno releases, Felix stepped away from the club circuit to challenge himself creatively, diving into live instruments and a wider range of songwriting. Over two years, he explored a palette shaped by ’70s/’80s jazz-funk and ’90s experimental rock, inspired by his dad’s old Japanese pressings and a love for exploratory sounds.

A chance meeting with Daichi in Copenhagen revealed a hidden thread of Japanese influence in the music, leading to a close collaboration. Daichi’s shimmering synths and textured keys reshaped the songs, adding a futuristic, dreamlike layer to Felix’s heavy grooves and emotive guitar work.

The album moves through slow-burning funk, cinematic textures, dreamy Rhodes melodies, and bursts of ’90s rock energy, balancing playful moments with deep, nostalgic undertones. From the warped guitar loops of Digital Súpa to the organ-driven drift of Sálmar & Suð, Federation JI is a conversation between two distinct musical worlds.

The result is something unexpected: Japanese/Icelandic future funk, soaked in atmosphere, groove, and emotion.

@moffandtarkin is back on Lagaffe Tales with a record that marks the 9th release in the Lagaffe series. The Austrian based Icelander provides two originals as well as a remix from label friend @uffeisaband.

The record starts off with Tension a break inspired banger with that special Moff & Tarkin twist. If you spot the sample let us know and you might win a coupon.

The second track "Socks By The Sofa" feels like something that would work wonders at your local bowling arena or even shopping mall, some piano samples and vocals, you know the drill.

The b side is dedicated to a massive Uffe remix, I tell you man, we had to write him back like 5 times and ask him to reduce that bass. Uffe takes Tension and turns it into a jungle journey a la Indiana Jones.

The EP opens up with Cohen Social Club by Flexi Leifs aka Felix Leifur. Our man Felix lost his drum machines last spring but luckily he found a guitar and some drums. The track starts off with suspicious sounding guitar notes that somehow up as pure beauty, giving hope in the darkest of places. Frodo with the ring stuff, if you know what I mean. Playful reverbs and echos give the tune the classic Felix Leifur feel to it! 

Moff & Tarkin has the next track "Pure Fury", some breakbeats and cheesy disco vocals, why change a winning recipe? 

Next up is "We are not alone " by label boss Jonbjörn. I think this is what Elton John meant when he said "thank god for those electro bangers!" Solid 909 drum work featuring dramatic chords and some original vocal work. If you can spot the sample write us on Soundcloud and you might win a year's worth of LaCafe Tales! 

With "Að handan" Viktor Birgiss comes back to the label in style. Our mastering engineer described it as having the loudest kickdrum in history, imagine that! Tale of Tales is the first of many releases that we define as samplers. The samplers provide insight into the label’s artist pool, a mini documentation. In this first Tale we have four different Icelandic artists that have been prominent lately in the Reykjavik electronic scene. 

Magnus “Magnoose” Skarphedinsson opens up the EP with a dark and groovy track followed by a little bit more of an atmospheric track; Refractions, from the label heads Viktor Birgisson and Jonbjorn Finnbogason a.k.a. Lagaffe Tales. The track features the old school sound of the 707 along with some impressive synth melodies. The Salzburg based producer Magnus  “Moff & Tarkin” Felix continues to impress with another banger of a track that features nice loopy sampling action and the trademark Moff & Tarkin synth sound. Last but not least we got the honor of releasing a track by Iceland’s most productive and famous hip hop producers Intro Beats that has been very busy with house production for the last two years. The Silly Walkin track closes up the Tale on a dance peak and should mark Intro Beats well into the deep house scene. We are excited for the coming times at the label and have much more to present in the future.

The Munich based duo Coeo are the stars of our fourteenth release. Florian Vietz and Andreas Hopfl have presented us with three original tracks with nice and special character. Closer EP is definitely a landmark release for us at Lagaffe Tales which challenges us to follow up with this new standard in the following future. The title track Closer is the star of the release. What stands out if the great percussion work and hauntingly beautiful vocal sample, whispering into our ears. As if the original track was not enough, we were lucky to get one of our biggest influences; Lay-Far to remix the track. The remix takes the percussion work to the next level and still staying true to the original mix. Lay-Far does not disappoint and makes sure that we connect memories we hold dear to the track. Mind Games is a beautiful piece with a tight baseline and enchanting piano atmosphere.  The duo bring to the table another beautiful piano sampling piece in the third track Timid Dancer. The whole EP has encouraged us to work harder and to grow in the right direction as a label.

This year we have reached our long-term goal as a label which was to expand our releases into the wax department. We feel like we’ve done a good job bringing upcoming and original local talent to the surface so far and it is only fitting that our first vinyl release is done by the Icelandic duo https://soundcloud.com/davidhjalti. The duo has been busy with the production since their arrival from Manchester and have played a number of great live sets underlining their skills as producers. Our second vinyl release features four tracks from our own Icelandic Moff & Tarkin (https://soundcloud.com/magnusfelix). Big Mango Bangers gives us a good taste of the fresh style that the Vienna based producer has to offer. The A side has two great danceable house tracks, 'Naked' and 'I Got This' that should rock any good dancefloor with some superb sample action. The B side really ties up the record and features 'Mutual Distraction' a house track with an 80’s vibe and 'Skutla' a synthony which could really break up and reset the mood as a DJ tool. Each track has a place and the record is a great example of the diversity we try to encourage.

Lagaffe Tales continue their impressive vinyl releases with an all-star European line up. The Icelandic label are again about to fill your eardrums with an array of house tracks. Out 12th of May on Lagaffe Tales.

Rolling out first and now playing ball on his home-court, Dirt Crew newcomer Felix Leifur introduces the sampler. “Eitt” comes soaked in soul and deadly stabs. His unique flavour is permeated all over this dancefloor filler. As weird and wonky as Felix gets, this one just about tops it. Twisting minds with his wizardry since his first release and by the sounds of this track, he has no plans to slow down. 

The second track on the EP comes from German duo, Coeo. This track will evoke the familiar 6am sunrise in this carefree deep club cut. “Clouds” has hard hitting drums that are infused in the soft piano riff creeping in and out accompanied by other hypnotic sounds. Caution! A journey into a deep state of dreamland awaits... 

The theme of European imports continues, this time Vienna based main man, Mooney Me lends his talents to the Icelandic label. His gift is “Soul”. With captivating percussion, a mean ass bassline all melded together with ethereal melodic chimes. A groove that will make any basement sweat out their worries. 

Rounding off is Swedish newcomer, Sune. If you’re looking for a groove that will get your body bouncing and leave a wide smile on your face, you’ve found it! His input is “I’ll Be Right Back” .a serious peak time mover! This cut of the legendary “Roy Ayers - The Golden Rod” supplies the floor with a deep disco vibe. Horns are in full swing with this one and are welcomed with some infectious high piano. This will have your hands in the Ayer within seconds.

https://soundcloud.com/iloiloilo is one of the more unique producers coming from Iceland past 20 years. In 2011 he became a widely known name on dancefloors around the world with his edit of New Musik’s classic ‘Warp’ and more recently with the 2017 hit ‘Everybody’ on OOFT!’s label Foto Recordings. ILO has a great catalogue of releases on labels such as Rebirth, S-Hit Records and Thule’s legendary offshoot 66 Degrees Records dating back to 2001. He’s also been a much sought-after remixer through the years. ILO has made remixes for some of Iceland's widely known artists, for example, Sigur Rós, múm and GusGus. Having him finally in the Lagaffe family is a great honour. 

The two tracks take the listener on a ride in terms of length, Take You To Love by ILO is a two track piece divided into the A side: Take You To Love and the B side: Miracles. 

Take You To Love is a slow breaky ode to the Naked Music’s 90s classic ‘I’ll Take You To Love’. It’s unconventional bpm, diva vocals and breakbeats make an interesting combination that hits you right in the feels. On the flip side is the house anthem ‘Miracles’ which offers more soothing vibes, but still hits you heavy with a thumping bassline and soulful vocals. “I still believe in miracles” it keeps repeating in your head for a hypnotizing 15-minute journey.

ILO’s style of arranging the tracks without rushing hypnotizes the listener, and before you know it you’ve gone on a 15-minute ride through ILO’s vast soundscape.

https://soundcloud.com/moffandtarkin second Lagaffe instalment marks the label's 8th vinyl release. The release sports three original tracks from the Austrian-based Icelander and a remix from label boss Jónbjörn.

The record starts off with the track Buzz Lightyear, who flies us off out of the atmosphere filled beginning into the depths of the spacey synths, delays and feedback. 

Followed is the track Friends Be like, which feels like a refreshing strut down the boulevard where everyone you meet knows you and you know them but instead of saying hello you are wearing headphones and just strut down the street nodding, winking and walking in beat with true swagger. A track with confidence written all over it.

The flip side features the track Takk! which roughly translates as Thank You! in Icelandic. Maybe not roughly, but rather exactly. The track is dramatic and starts off rather stress inducing but takes a whole new direction when Moff & Tarkin adds in soothing piano chords and makes the track’s whole mood switch. Maybe its a fitting goodbye for the listener as you make your way through label boss Jónbjörn’s remix which has a very warm and feel good atmosphere, lush drums and elements that add on layers to the already great original. A very personal remix and a good ending to a great record that we hope you can enjoy.

These last five BROT tracks move the sound to another spectrum where Felix plays around with his traditional sound. But this time the tempo is high, and the strong influences from old school breakbeat and jungle shine through. Felix's BROT 03 ties up the first BROT series with flair and this one will surely not be the last one.

Icelandic producer https://soundcloud.com/jonbjorn returns to his Lagaffe Tales imprint to deliver four vibrant cuts on the ‘BROT’ catalogue.

In a small valley between two mountains in the Icelandic Westfjords, you can find the source of creativity for the Reykjavík based Icelandic DJ and producer, Jónbjörn. As well as being an accomplished DJ, performing in Berlin, Vienna, Helsinki, Tbilisi and festivals such as Sonar Reykjavik and Secret Solstice, the last three years has seen Jónbjörn carving out a solo career both as a graphic designer, and music producer developing a sound of his own working with labels such as Neo Violence, FALK Records, D.KO Records and remixes on his Lagaffe Tales imprint – the label he’s been running for the past seven year runs with his friend Viktor Birgiss. In 2020 Lagaffe Tales will introduce more artists on the BROT series which https://soundcloud.com/felixleifur started ever so memorably with a headturning trilogy in 2019.

The opener entitled ‘Shamisen’ kicks off the EP with stabbing electro drums, fluttering synth work harmonising with the gentle melodies throughout while ‘Anthophila Anna’ provides a more technofocused feel with raw modulations, acid-fuelled tones and surging, lo-fi rhythms.

On the filp, ‘Tinni’ deploys a menacing synth line, growing oscillations floating with the weight-driven kicks and snares offering up a peak-time dancefloor focused cut before ‘Sakuragawa’ rounds off proceedings with shimmering grooves harmonising with the aquatic tones and effervescent elements that pulsate until the end.
