Or, a song about addiction--specifically addiction to gobs of minty toothpaste, or shoegrass pie, or kittens, or fuzzy blankets you want to nuzzle incessantly to the detriment of your professional associations, or philtrum-gazing, or comparatively diminutive lunulas, or raw oats, or anything else that causes intense sensations of physiological deprivation and debilitating anxiety when you have to do without. Kind of like with drugs. But the addicting kinds of drugs. Not that weak designer crap all the fancy kids are into these days. Those drugs don't have a clue.

I Don't Know

Percy perches himself on his park bench
His holy ragged turncoat square folded and wedged
Between his ass and the damp wood

Passers-by are taken aback by his wide smile 
Not just for the gesture or expression but the condition

Every afternoon from twelve to one he sits with wide eyes

Before begrudgingly returning to his partitioned view

Commonly mistaken as an inhabitant of the street 
He’s just a scruff who’s appearance makes no odds to his colleagues
They take no notice of him

In teasing open his tubberware lunchbox
Which encases a cheese and jam sandwich  
And a little green and black olive and feta cheese salad 
Which he devours his haste 
So to get back to 
Watching people pass
