Cigarettes After Sex is a dream pop band led by songwriter Greg Gonzalez & is currently based out of LA.

We named our band Meconium, appropriately for the songs that we sung
Reminds us of the stuff that comes from newborn babies blessed bums

Formed in the East Cleveland backwater of Skelton in 1994, Meconium were:
 Brian Stevenson jnr singing and guitar
Robbie Murray bass guitar
Ben Muriel drums
Ch Chon Armstrong singing and piano occasionally

We didn't have a clue what we were doing! We had cobbled together a daft bit of really poor gear - instruments bought from cash converters, shite amps from back street music shops, drums which didn't have any legs and had to be propped up with magazines shoved in the side - donated by the local psycho from the next street down, telescope tripod converted into a mic stand...you get the picture, we were poor..very poor indeed.

This tape is the result of us still not really knowing what we're doing!
We recorded these songs at Studio 64 in Middlesbrough and some weird school/studio setup in Brotton in 1997. We'd just leave the record button on and go for it...some of em are shite, some of em are alright.
I (Ben), recently found all my old tapes and have converted em into MP3's/WAVs whatever with a shonky little machine that looks like a Walkman...some of them sound wobbly as, themachine is very shonky...really not worth the £13 I spent on it...

Anyway, here's my Coronavirus trip down amnesia lane..a warts an all project that sums up our daft little band really. Hope you like it, there really is some class tunes if you can get past the tape wobble

A multi-media label founded by DJ Greg Wilson, Super Weird Substance deals primarily with balearicpsychedelicdubdisco recordings whilst, on the live side, hosting sixties-styled ‘Happenings’ that include talks, art, bands and DJs.

Announcing its presence at the beginning of summer in 2014 – via the good vibes life-affirming mixtape ‘Blind Arcade Meets Super Weird Substance In The Morphogenetic Field’ – the label took five Super Weird Happenings across the country, whilst releasing a series of new recordings on vinyl, the next year. Eight singles were released between June and October, followed by a CD compilation, bringing together all of the singles as well as alternate versions and a special Greg Wilson mix.

Building on the success of a memorable Festival No.6 showcase in Portmeirion in 2015, Super Weird Substance returned in April 2017 with their most ambitious event to date, the 14 Hour Super Weird Happening at The Florrie. Prior to that Super Weird Substance collaborated with the man who bestowed their name, teaming up with Alan Moore and his Mandrillifesto project, Super Weird Substance created their second mixtape, ‘Alan Moore’s Mandrill Meets Super Weird Substance At The Arts Lab Apocalypse’, taking his acute social commentary and reinventing it within their own joyous sonic realm.

In 2018, the label returned to music with digital single, Gone With The Vibe and the first Substance Select EP. 2019 saw a new, younger energy introduced to the label, bringing with it new sounds, set to be unleashed in 2020, alongside Substance Select Vol.2, releasing Bella Technika remixes on vinyl.
