8bit style

The Chiptune Cafe's Autumn Jam for this year recently finished and we had the music stream yesterday so I wanted to finally get this track uploaded.

We had a brief and theme but the gist of it would be "some spy stuff" so we had a lot of different takes on it! Here's my adaptation of the theme we were given as well as a very cringe explanation to match which I'll put below:

0:00 - 0:22: Scouting the area, Tia spots the residence and then the guards that patrol the surrounding area.
0:22 - 0:44: She tracks the patterns and a point of entry to infiltrate, as she prepares to execute her trademark "Tokya Blitz" strategy - silent but deadly, shock and awe.
0:44 - 0:56: Crawling back through the emergency escape tunnels, she rapidly makes progress towards her next obstacle - finding a way to gracefully exit the vent system.
0:56 - 1:14: Tia stops and notices the indoor patrol pacing back and forth in their predictive patterns.
1:14 - 1:39: Now is her chance and she spots an opening, swiftly and gracefully sweeping from corner to corner with ease, averting any need for the patrol to sound the alarm.
1:39 - 2:05: Finally, a chance to breathe as she finds her planned checkpoint room - a small storage area littered with fake recreations and replicas of extremely valuable tupperware.
2:05 - 2:16: While Tia is resting, her eyes lock on a small moving camera in the corner of the room - that familiar sinking feeling immediately washes over her but quickly snaps back to reality as she knows about the thousands of simulations that she's run through in far worse situations than this in preparation.
2:16 - 2:27: Time is of the essence and now is not the time for subtlety anymore.
2:16 - 2:38: She knows that the artifact room is only a few doors down so it's time for the Dazzling Gleam - incapacitate any encountered moving targets and get in and out as soon as possible.
2:38 - 2:49: There it is sitting there in all its glory for the taking - Artifact #2.
2:49 - 3:02: No-one really knows if Tia made it out of there in the end - all we know is that the Banana Baron Tito Lounge’s mansion is missing an artifact and Tia still continues to be off the grid.

I got far to into it by the end and I profusely apologise to all of those who had to listen to the description of the track on stream.

Overall, it was a huge amount of fun to participate and write something thematic and atmospheric.

I used three N163 channels for the "guitar" sound, then ran them through an amp simulator in my DAW, so no, this isn't purely FamiTracker, but I made the song fully in FamiTracker before adding the stereo effects. I hope you enjoy it.

Memories Of A Lost World - Famitracker (VRC6)

Personally, I think this version is loads better than the lazy approach Nintendo took to it.  If you listen closely, you will realize that their version is actually polyphonic (the notes overlap for about point one seconds), as if the game uses a kind of MIDI like SoundFont.  In fact, that might honestly be the case, what with how changing from the modern to the eight bit version of the same song in the soundtrack menu audibly turns on the eight bit and fades that out instead of fading out the modern one and then playing the classic variant, and even vice versa!
