The Beast

I started messing with this back in May when I was poking around with some free distortion plugins, which led to the fuzzy overdriven thing.  From there it was pretty much just me and my usual suspects, qsamo and minimogue. 

One exception to that is my use of some crappy one-shot djembe drum samples that I clipped from some old tutorial video years ago for a project for a friend.  I used them on another unreleased song but I think this is the first time they made it into the wild.

At some point it dawned on me how much it resembled the song, Daisy.  That gave me an idea for a vocalist, HAL 9000 circa 2001.  The little backup vocal ahh's are yours truly.

Usually i post fresh improv, faster made tune. This one is different. Two years of mixing, mastering, getting dozens of basslines bumping to each other in a slo-mo Pogo dance. Had a blast producing it in Ableton with Arturia synths and IK Multimedia tools. 

Having said that, thats a rule, Fender Strat tipsy guitar noodle improv comes almost as-is, as it happened one good day. You can spend endless time mixing, polishing, growing your skills, but if something just happened - let it be. Power of music is in the improvisation and art of impression. AN ELECTRONIC VOICES ALBUM

"Metafonia" is the Italian word that identifies the phenomenon known in parapsychology as "electronic voices".

- Metafonia II, IV and V are the less edited tracks, in order to leave the spirit of improvisation unchanged. Ideally these three represent a second volume within the first volume.

Each piece was made starting from vocal samples recorded and processed in real time with a laptop (and with the addition of some synths). The only voice behind these pieces is mine (at least I think, and above all I hope, even if I can never be completely sure), recorded while I was improvising random phrases, as if I were my own medium.

I waited a long time before deciding to finish and release this series of songs, the gloomy atmosphere of this end of October 2020 made me realize that it was time to let them go.

This is the first collection of songs made with this technique of editing random vocal recordings. Others to come.

Jon Rando is just your average random guy on the internet who makes a bit of music and art in his spare time.  Alright, that's enough of this 3rd person weirdness.

I make all this stuff with Jeskola Buzz and maybe some free VST's.  I started messing around with it in the late 90's as a teen and have sort of gotten back into it as a hobby in the last several years.  I also played drums in a garage band for many years and play a bit of guitar/bass as well, though none of that here.

In addition to dabbling with music, I also do a lot of photo manipulation stuff with GIMP as a hobby as well.  Most of the track art is stuff I have altered in some way or created from scratch.

In general, most of these songs are released under CC licenses and I have downloads enabled on most of the tracks.  So you are free to use something you like for your projects if you would like.
