Isn’t it enough, he asked
effectively declared,
writing poetry and songs
to praise your beauty
love, so fair?

walking smiling on the rooftops
where the world can hear my sighs,
tell me, isn’t that enough, I beg,
to make you satisfied?

Ah how you’ve missed the point! she cried,
I thought you’d know by now
its not the things you say aloud
or what you do, but how.

For love is not a ladder
climbing endless toward the sky
its jumping off the highest ledge
not knowing how to fly.
