It is filled with evocative, heart-full songs that draw on his journey from London’s sex, drugs and rock n’ roll scene in the 70’s, to a voyage of self discovery in Osho’s ashram in India, and then over 20 years of sharing mantras, songs and meditation around the planet with Deva.
 
The music moves through many moods and styles from the Gospel grooves of Riverman to Zen meets the Blues in No Goal But This and the rich, mellow guitar and gentle inscapes of One Step at a Time and Exactly As It Is. A magical version of his beloved Beatles’ Norwegian Wood is also included, plus a few old gems in new settings.
 
In Temple at Midnight, Miten gives a voice to intimate inner spaces, with songs that welcome us however they find us, sharing our fears, celebrating our joys and, through it all, reminding us of “the silence gently growing.”

The track title, "Una Vida de Alegría", is Spanish for "A Life of Joy". Bright and energetic, this piece of neo-medieval music is meant to be a reminder of sorts. A reminder to enjoy the big things ... the little things ... and everything in between. Enjoy the mere fact of living, because life itself is a gift that we  take for granted all too often.

Instrument Discussion

PERCUSSION: tom, hand drum. snare, tambourine

WIND: chriminia, bombarde

These are both medieval reed instruments, in the same family as the bagpipe. Like their more famous aforementioned cousin, they lend themselves to rich, complex melodic lines packed with grace notes, intricate trills and other articulations. The chriminia makes its first appearance at 0:41 and reappears throughout the song, particularly during the choruses. The bombarde kicks in at 1:02 and plays during the choruses as well. 

BOWED: hurdy gurdy (chanters + rhythm + drone)

The instrument you hear panned to the left (drone + rhythmic buzzing) that opens the song is a hurdy gurdy, which is a popular medieval stringed instrument. The hurdy gurdy is an instrument that can also be played melodically, like a violin. I use that functionality as well in the choruses and at a couple other parts. If you listen closely you can hear the sound of its keys being pressed as its melodic strings are bowed.  Needless to say, it's a very versatile instrument :)

PLUCKED: gittern

The gittern is a type of medieval lute. It is the "guitar-like" plucked instrument that can be heard throughout the song. It's one of my favorite medieval plucked instruments.

VOCALS: lead female vocalist (soprano), lead male vocalist (tenor), backing female vocalist (soprano), male vocal shouts

As per usual the vocals were recorded using true legato sampled VSTSs, meaning that these melodic lines were composed and recorded by hand and that no pre-recorded phrases were used.

When Rudi ( F.R. Kniel ) approached me to ask if I would be interested in collaborating on a piece of music, that had been inspired by Vocalatti's gorgeous " Gently Johnny", I was absolutely delighted. A beautiful, simple and authentic arrangement, and very moving lyrics, and so I was inspired quickly and added some gaelic...that of the old Ogham tree alphabet, which I love. Here is the story Rudi told me.....
As a young man in 1986, I did a 3 week trekking tour through your beautiful land with a good friend of mine. I remember how friendly and open, and helpful the folk were there. And while on Harris, having trekked far to get there, and tired walking along the road, some handicraft fellows came by in their pick up truck and asked where we were going. They put us in the back, handed each of us a can of beer and drove us 20kms to the sandy beaches, just to unload us and drive back to where they came from. I still remember how the wind blew through my hair on the trip, and how good the beer tasted!  Oh we were free then!
Now I have reached an age when those things come and visit you in your dreams.

The River ( Colorado Breeze )- Bordeaux & Love

Invention À 3 Guitares

Look at a U.S. map, and draw a straight line from Natchez, Mississippi to Richmond, Virginia.  Then cross it with another line from Savannah, Georgia to Memphis, Tennessee.  Next draw a circle around the outside tips of each line.        The area you've encircled is the subject of this song.
     There is so much spectacular beauty in this world, but I just have never found another place that can compare to a thick old-growth Appalachian forest or the rolling hardwood and pine hills of central Alabama or middle Tennessee.
      I grew up there but don't get to go back often enough.
      The song's title White Spangled Hills is reference to the dogwood tree, which grows wild throughout the area, coloring the wooded hillsides with its white blooms for a month or so in early Spring.

I am not a musician but music plays a very important role in my creative life! I am an artist/designer and music is my companion and my muse in the long hours I spend working in my studio! 
I am immensely impressed and grateful for all the talented and inspiring musicians whose work graces this Cloud, and I will always re-post sounds that I love (and will listen to again) - knowing that others will enjoy them!
