Next up from the Floating Dreams tribe is Nick Bennett…

Nick’s passion for electronic music was set in motion decades ago after seeing Dimitri from Paris behind the decks. Techno fast became Nick’s genre of choice in the early days of spinning vinyl inspired by the likes of Jeff Mills and Derrick May. Over time, Nick’s tastes have mellowed, now opting for tunes from organic and deep house labels such as All Day I Dream, Anjundeep, Shanti Radio, Melody of the Soul, RYNTH and The Purr.

In recent years, Nick has been pivotal in bringing to Melbourne some of the biggest names in organic house such as Sébastien Léger [All Day I Dream / Lost Miracle], Double Touch [All Day I Dream, TRYBESof], Fede Pals [3rd Avenue; The Purr] and Jim Rider [All Day I Dream].

In addition to these artists, Nick has supported Kasey Taylor & Karl Pilbrow [Sudbeat], James Beetham [Late Night Music], DJ Koze [Pampa Records], Gerd Janson [Running Back, DE], Weird Sounding Dude [Anjunadeep / The Soundgarden], Dosem [Anjunadeep] and Martin Roth [Anjunadeep].

Nick has held residencies at Arbory Afloat, Music Room Melbourne and UK-based radio station AATM Radio and has played at numerous venues across Melbourne such as Brown Alley, My Aeon, Howler Bar, Bourke St Courtyard, Top Yard, Hotel Railway Brunswick and Kindred Bandroom.

Nordic Voyage Spotlight - Saturo Sounds Spotlight Series

This mix is the music I played at Saturday Evening Social on December 16, 2023. When bringing this music together, I was attracted to the unusual basslines in some of these tracks, and so I put them into in one rolling mix. In my opinion, these are some of today's artists who are producing progressive house at its finest. Something really special about this kind of music is that after the warm up, every track feels like it's going to be the last song of the evening.

This was the first time I was booked to play for Footwork Entertainment of Vancouver Island Canada. A lot of good shows have been done by them, and they have really fostered a space for community in Victoria. I had heard that a lot of older people come out to these things, and true to reputation there were people aged 30-40 & up, dancing alongside the younger crowd. I saw many people out that I haven't seen in years.

This night was at Hermann's Night Club in Victoria, BC. Originally planned to be a two room event, it was soon expanded to three rooms. Footwork brings in world-class DJs, and this event had Canada's own two-time Juno award nominee MC Flipside. I was playing in the other room when Flipside went on, but I was able to catch the second half of his set, which was stompy and vocal tech house. I always try to play something different than the other rooms, hence the harder, melodic progressive on this mix. Enjoy!

After nearly twenty years of being heavily immersed in the world of trance, progressive house and organic house as a DJ, Jordan Caron aka Joca, makes his dive into the production world. Growing up, he was never interested in music or learning an instrument, and it was until 2021 that he decided to dive into the world of learning music production and creating his own productions.

Learning to create music and understanding what goes into making high-quality productions has been a challenging yet magical journey for him. After completing his first two tracks, he felt comfortable reaching out to labels, was pleasantly surprised with the positive feedback, and was excited to have 'Blue Flame' and 'Fern Forest' released on Beyond The Moon. 

In 2023, two of his releases saw the light of day on the storied 3rd Avenue label. He has more productions and remixes in the works for 2024. Also, he has joined the 3rd Avenue label, where he will be a label manager in charge of remixes and taking the reins on a new interview podcast series featuring 3rd Avenue artists! 

He is also looking forward to securing more DJ gigs in 2024 as 2023 proved to be a great year integrating back into the local Victoria house music scene.
