The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

It was the very first time I felt truly free to play techno in Chile, a genre at the core of my artistry, and I enjoyed the beautiful synergy I had with the crowd that night whose thirst for this special genre was on full display! Set mixed with PLAYdifferently MODEL 1 and recorded live at Sound Nightclub, Los Angeles on February 15, 2019.

While on holiday at the beginning of last year, it dawned on me that although I’ve been playing in LA since the early ‘90’s, I’d never done an open to close set here. And over the years I’ve watched as my good friend Kobi Danann has transformed Sound Nightclub into THE definitive clubbing experience in the city; carefully studying the variety of DJs who come thru its doors and meticulously tweaking every aspect of the venue. So naturally at the end of that epic all nighter we decided to make it a yearly tradition.
