Watergate Affairs is a brand new offering featuring residents, regulars and affiliated artists that have developed close ties to the club through the years. Over the course of four tracks, Jimi Jules, Lee Jones, La Fleur and David Mayer & Sebastian Voigt perfectly display the sound of Watergate. 

Diving right in is Jimi Jules and he hasn't let lost a step, picking up where he left off with his stellar 'Bogotá EP' earlier this year by churning out a burner. "6%" is rooted in a heaving low end groove while hypnotic tones spiral around a modulating lead that never lands in the same place, ensuring a twisted dance floor venture. 

Following on the A side we see long time resident Lee Jones at the top of his game with 'Fraction Disco', edited by no other than Metro. Equal parts eerie and sublime, it navigates through a groovy playfulness with deliberate severity by contrasting bouncing percussion with haunting keys creating a tune that feels absolutely massive. 

Flipping sides, the one and only La Fleur kicks it off in her signature style on 'Waves', effortlessly blending modern design with a classic approach resulting in an unforgettable tune that flawlessly shines at any time and place. 

Wrapping up the EP is close friends to the club; David Mayer & Sebastian Voigt. 'Voyage One' sees the two plunge deep into the aural wilderness utilizing rich, organic percussives as lush sonic hooks rise and fall spawning a unique excursion into celestial spaces.

Over Christmas 2014 I needed a break from recording
my album, searching online for a song I recalled from
my youth, I fell into a rabbit hole of thousands of
YouTube playlists and posts, rediscovering the songs
my friends and I would gather and listen to as
13 & 14 yr olds every Saturday in East Berlin on Radio DT64
(now Berlin's Radio Fritz).

I stumbled back to the future, collecting over 5000 songs
on YouTube, learning for the first time the artists behind
the songs we heard almost 25 years ago.

The forthcoming trilogy is the result of 18 month
of building edits from YouTube recordings and stitching
them together off-line. I could not include every song,
nor indeed even the entire tracks from this small period
until 1993, so this is my personal history of electronic
music arriving in Berlin.

This trilogy will not be sold, it was a labor of love,
born of nostalgia and made for sharing.

Kicking off the week with this groovy psychedelic soundscape set played by Safak OzKutle AKA “Oceanvs Orientalis” is a formation which aims to challenge the aesthetic perception in electronic music.

It blends itself with the archaelogic tunes of mankind’s cumulative musical history and in this very context believes that “everything comes from the east”.

Despite of being an electronic-based formation -due to practical reasons- at the moment, it intends to transform into a dance (to move the body and feet to music) orchestra where each instrument will be played by its own instrumentalist.

Catharsis: the purging of the emotions or relieving of emotional tensions, especially through certain kinds of art, as tragedy or music.  Sidebottom's debut work on Cenote, the Catharsys EP, is a collection of samplings that represent significant events and emotions in the artist’s recent life.  His hope for those who might listen to these tracks, is to spread an emotional contagion of sorts, and to provide relief from their own experiences and reality; they are an escape.  The three original tracks span a variety of styles and ooze with subtle complexities and atmospheric nuances, as intricate melodies dance around and pull-push with the surrounding elements to provide aural conflict resolution and indeed, offer a catharsis.  Cenote brings back label friends Sam Jaspersohn and After Touch to reinterpret The Line and Sand & Clay respectively, along with Blackwöh, a Toronto-based music mangler and regular collaborator with Sidebottom, who puts a darker spin on Consequence.

Montpellier's own Drol. joins us in Montreal on May 6 for the latest instalment of the Abandoned party series. The effort brings together a host of local collectives in the deep house, techno and electronic scene, including the likes of Husa Sounds, Front Rite, 8day, Octov, Ancient Future and more, for the one day gathering. It will see a collection of the city's best talent on the ones and twos along with specials guests Adana Twins. Ahead of the occasion, Frenchman Drol., who will feature on the outdoor stage, has crafted a fresh treat in the form of minimal dinger '2013'. What's more, he has made it available for free to all When We Dip readers!
