Zurvan is the Persian god of time and space, the father of the good god Ahura Mazda and the evil god Angra Mainyu, representing the primordial, boundless creator from which all else emerged. He is portrayed as a transcendental and neutral deity, beyond passion, for whom there is no distinction between good and evil. Later depictions of eternal time in Greco-Roman art, such as Aion, echo his symbolism: a winged, lion-headed figure encircled by a serpent, representing the motion of the sun.
