To commemorate all the amazing music throughout so many different genres this year, I’ve decided to expand upon the idea of three different (continuous) mixes as I created during the previous two years, by not limiting myself to a specific amount of tracks per mix, but to simply include all tracks that I feel like require celebration. This way I hope to display a showcase of sorts of what this year had to offer in the Progressive, Trance and Hard Dance scenes. So, it does not contain all the best tracks per say, but more the best tracks of the specific styles I love. Additionally I won’t make a ranked list any more as I did before, because a ranked list feels meaningless due to the fact that I’ve noticed how much my opinions have drifted about pre-2023 releases. Therefore, this new style of EOYC mixes is my attempt to give lasting meaning to the mixes for myself and for you guys, in the hopes of these mixes standing the test of time as a “recap” or summary of last year’s music.

That being said, there is definitely one track that jumps out for me: The Noble Six – The Colors Out Of Space, and for that reason, I will call this track “tune of the year”. I am greatly impressed by how this artist manages to grow with each released track, and how incredibly in-depth his productions and journeys are, despite the fact that they are often not very orchestral any more.

Some other highlights this year for me: the ever emerging Deep Trance scene, mainly at Forescape Music, and the return of more dreamy Progressive Trance across all styles. The increasing return of old school Trance sounds, notable with Enigma State becoming more and more well known, Ferry Tayle (and Cape Town for that matter) returning more to his roots again and a whole bunch of other artists such as A.R.D.I. and Sean Tyas going more and more in this direction again as well. The uplifting mix is full of such old-school influenced highlight tracks. And finally, the emergence of an Industrial Hardstyle scene in parallel with some isolated specks (such as Spoontech) pushing the bounds of old school Hardstyle integrated with Raw Hardstyle, while the Industrial Hardcore scene had some leaps in terms of quality journeyful dark atmospheric tracks, especially with the emergence of the The Silence project.
