There we were waiting
As it always seems to be
The evening closing in around us
Distance as far as the eye could see
We held each other tightly
A warning to the insinuating cold
That this here between us
Will become a storied tale of old

The snowflakes did their dance
In ringlets and spirals they fell
Forming upon every surface
A cocoon preserving yesterday well
But today was a new day
That projects what lay ahead
