Leaving Sicily is a poetic remembrance, expressed through sound, of my travels across the Island in 2017. For me the Island was a constant  barrage of wonder; both beautiful and terrifying, welcoming and isolating, modern and ancient and familiar yet alien. The piece heavily manipulates samples from the field recording captured at The Falcone Borsellino Aiport to express some of the dichotomies above. Leaving Sicily finishes with the ‘raw’ sound of the crowd of the airport terminal representing the transition from my surreal and personal travel back into the world of normality - just another tourist in the crowd about to return to his normal life.

Diese Komposition widme ich dem katalanischen Baumeister Antoni Gaudi und seinem großen Bauwerk „Sagrada Familia“

Eine Verwandte erzählte mir staunend von der Besichtigung dieser Basilika.
Dabei zeigte sie mir viele schöne Fotos dieser wunderschönen Kirche.
Ein Foto habe ich als Motiv-Cover für meine Veröffentlichung dieser Komposition verwendet.

Der Bau wurde im Jahre 1882 begonnen und wird voraussichtlich im Jahre 2026 zum 100. Todestages Antonio Gaudi fertiggestellt sein. Somit hätte die Vollendung dieses sacralen Bauwerks 144 Jahren gedauert.
Dies ist für ein derart monumentales Bauwerk eine recht kurze Bauzeit, wenn man bedenkt,
dass die Erbauung des Kölner Doms  vom Architekt „Meister Gerhard“ 632 Jahre bis zur Vollendung benötigte. 

Antoni Gaudi war auch ein sehr gläubiger Mensch.
Seine Vision die Erschaffung eines Sühnetempel der Heiligen Familie.
Auf die Unmöglichkeit einer baldigen Fertigstellung angesprochen, antwortete Gaudi:
„Meine Kunde hat keine Eile“

Auf diesen Satz hin bezieht sich auch meine inspirierte Komposition.
Die Vision eines sacralen Klangwerks.
In diesem Sinne hat auch meine musikalische Arbeit keine Eile.

"Holy" "Sacre" "Sagrada" (07/03/2023)


I dedicate this composition to the Catalan master builder Antoni Gaudi and his great building "Sagrada Familia"

A relative told me in amazement about visiting this basilica.
She showed me many beautiful photos of this beautiful church.
I used a photo as a motif cover for my publication of this composition.

Construction began in 1882 and is expected to be completed in 2026 on the 100th anniversary of Antonio Gaudi's death. Thus, the completion of this sacred structure would have taken 144 years.
This is quite a short construction time for such a monumental structure, considering
that the construction of the Cologne Cathedral by the architect "Master Gerhard" needed 632 years to complete.

Antoni Gaudi was also a very religious person.
His vision of creating a temple of expiation for the Holy Family.
Asked about the impossibility of an early completion, Gaudi replied:
"My client is in no hurry"

My inspired composition also refers to this sentence.
The vision of a sacred sound work.
In this sense, my musical work is not in a hurry.

The Fall (Part I) - Cosmogonic Myth

This is a song that has been a long time coming. Ken (K2 and the Three [and the Four]) and I have been big fans of Artur (Surfers Like Us) for going on a year now, because of his unique, refined, genre-specific songwriting and excellent playing. We've both been bugging him almost that entire time to share one of his songs with us. So, he finally agreed. This is the result. 
  I posted it and Ken, who added the perfect drums and percussion, was already on board. Then we invited JJ for some dynamic, soulful organ. We then asked Tez to add a lead and mix it for us. He added a killer, tasteful lead, and performed the heroic task of mixing it to all of our liking. I'm on my four string fretless for this one. I wish we could've squeezed Stephen (TexMex Shaman) into this one, but he'll definitely be on the next. We all hope you enjoy it!

Welcome to my page, my peers, associates, friends, and musical family. I'm a lifelong, multi-instrumentalist musician who records prolifically and joyfully. You'll hear me play guitar, bass (regular four string, and four and five string fretless), mandolin, banjo, keys (piano, organ, synth), lap slide, sitar, and sing on my recordings here. I've been in a few dozen bands in my life, playing everything from bluegrass, jazz, rock, jam band, reggae, funk, afrobeat, Middle Eastern, traditional Irish, singer/songwriter, pop/covers, to experimental/avant garde. 
  Since I found SoundCloud a couple years ago, I've found many talented, creative people with whom to create music. However, in the summer of '23 I formed a band called The Eclectic Collective with some of my favorite musicians I've met through here. It started as a loose collective of musicians and coalesced into a core group of musicians who find other musicians with whom we'd like to make music, then run their songs through our process, and in effect add a full band. That core of The Eclectic Collective includes Tez (Llanpsych), J.J. Terrel, Ken (K2 and the Three), Stephen (Texmex Shaman), Chris (cgmaness), and Mark (mistermark). A couple of other musicians are frequent collaborators, as well, including Artur of Surfers Like Us, and Steve Vervaet of Steve's World. More recently, we've been joined by Carl of The Beautiful Dark fame. 
  The magic of music is amplified exponentially by each person adding to it. So, we really try to add our sorcery all kinds of music from all kinds of artists. Sometimes, we keep it within the group, but a lot of what we do is collaboration with other artists. Therefore these days, 100% of what I do is collaboration, within the group or with other artists on the side.
  I, and we, are also available for hire if you have a song or lyrics and you really want to add bigger instrumentation or a band and good production to it.

I also really like and am influenced by traditional Iranian, Palestinian, Indian, Sri Lankan, Sudanese, Mauritian, Somalian, Egyptian, West African, and Syrian music. I welcome anyone who plays non-western music to contact me for a collaboration, too.
 I'm overjoyed to have found my community on SoundCloud. This is a truly unique forum where everyone is sincerely trying to build each other up. The profoundly supportive and positive SoundCloud community has really opened up an exciting new world of collaboration for me. That is the main reason I'm in the Cloud, actually, to connect with other musicians and make music that I enjoy listening to, and hopefully others do, as well. I am ALWAYS looking to collaborate with interesting musicians, mostly though BandLab, which is where I record almost exclusively. It's a solid, free digital audio workstation hub where you can share recording projects, even if it's not where you make your recordings.
  Everything I do is live instrumental, not programmed, and using no computer beyond my phone. That's not to say that I would be opposed to using that kind of tool, it's just not my preferred medium with which to paint. If you like my music, please share it.
