Brady's Place

One of my works recorded in my "previous" life before the war. Sometimes we feel tiny and lonely in the Universal. Lately I feel tiny and helpless facing the horrors of the war in my country...

Another composition recorded before the war. I hope one day I will return to my home studio. Any support from you is much appreciated on these extremely hard times for our country, our family. 
I could have recorded much new music for the last 9 months... unless russians came to our yard to "save" us with their tanks, missiles, bombs and war planes at 4 a.m. on Feb 24th. And yes, they saved us from our house, from our normal life, from our dreams and plans. They saved my elderly parents from their home and peaceful life in retiring, saved my daughter from happy childhood, from school, from her friends and vacation by the sea. We'll never forget and never forgive it! I'm sure that russia will get what it deserves - each rocket they launch on Ukraine will turn to another 10 years of disaster for their cowardly people.

Hey… so what are Vintage Bone: B-Sides? They are older songs and little ditties that got lost in my growing pile of recordings. This winter, I have been going through my catalog, pulling out a couple songs, here and there, and creating a new pile called Vintage Bone. Most needed some remixing and production adjustments. Some are first take versions of songs I like to re-record often. Ever notice that sometimes first versions seem to be the best, even if a redo is compositionally better? With this song, ‘There You Are’ from 2015, I noticed the vocals were ruined by plosives, hissing and distortion. (Nope, I do not have a pop filter -yet-. Haha.) There was way too much compression and reverb, and I overdid the EQ… all of which seemed to dull the song's natural character, so I made some adjustments and rerecorded the guitar solos. Sure, it’s just GarageBand, so please, cut me some slack. Thanks. Yes, sometimes I’d rather live in my dreams, with all my favorite ice creams. Most of us spend a third of our lives sleeping and dreaming. I dream like an old dog now. The symbolism and metaphors are wildly revealing. The vast dream world, of the places I go, and people I meet, is filled with extraordinary things. Sometimes there are dangerous situations filled with scary moments. I can fly, sometimes I encounter supernatural beings, but often I have recurring dreams where the places and people are familiar to me. Once in April, I dreamt about a mentor I had as a kid, who died. I woke up crying. I did not know he had passed, and thought he was still alive so I sent him a letter. Months passed, and I forgot about it. Then I received a letter from his wife. She was gracious and said she received my letter in the same month that her husband, my mentor, had passed away years ago. She said April’s were always difficult for her, and the letter was a godsend. In the letter, I had mentioned to my mentor how thankful I was that he was a part of my life as a kid. A bright spot as it were. She said no one ever mentioned that to him before, and thanked me many times. It was that dream that convinced me to pay attention to dreams. I have written over a hundred pages of dream experiences, and hopefully one day before I go, hee-hee…. I will write a book about those dreams. But for now, I have some snow shoveling to do. This song started with Kuba, my Polish friend, sending me a song idea, where he was playing guitar and singing in English. To that, I added bass, slide, mandolin, and piano. I also rewrote the lyrics to give them a better sounding English flow, then sang the high and low harmonies, too. It changed from a song about "waiting for the mountain dew," to "when you dance, the skies are blue." 
  I like finding public domain common melodies in songs, too, so if you pay close attention to the slide, you'll hear me quoting Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in there. 
  I really like Kuba's song ideas and our process together. Speaking of people with whom I like to work, I asked Tez (Llanpsych) to produce and mix the whole thing, even though his instrumental skills are absent from the song. 
  I was going for a European village folk song feel for this one. Hope you enjoy our love song.

Because the title of the song found a tone that matches the scenery of the cover photo. When I was choosing a tone with the intention of creating an arpeggio, I heard the sound of cutting an iron pipe.
I'm happy with the rhythm track, the bass sound that's even heavier but doesn't bother me, and the opening and break scene play. All are my favourites.
This song is the first time I've realized how much fun it is to create a bass part.

Hot Sand - Open Collaboration Offer

This is a song that I created with a few different songs in mind, most prominently Us and Them and Deep Blue Day. I needed drums, though, so I sent it to my friend Ken who added those and some acoustic guitar--exactly as I wanted them to sound. Then I sent it to Tez who added a ripping electric guitar. He also produced and mixed the whole thing. And what an expert job he did, as always. For anyone paying attention, this is a remix of the song A Separate Reality we all released two weeks ago. it's less heavy on the electric guitar and heavier on the keys. The desired effect is that it's a more relaxing version. We hope it has that effect on you!

Mixed Up Reality (with Llanpsych and K2 and the Three [and Four])

Phil Chris sent me this song, which was little more than a beat and some chords. I then added some bass, guitar, piano, organ, and synth. Then, I sent it to Tez to work his magic on the board. he came up with two very distinct mixes. The first one, which I already posted, has two beats in it, so it sounds like a heartbeat, and it is very guitar heavy. This mix really focuses on the organ. It almost sounds like a different song, imo. I hope you all enjoy the remix.

Welcome to my page, my peers, associates, friends, and musical family. I'm a lifelong, multi-instrumentalist musician who records prolifically and joyfully. You'll hear me play guitar, bass (regular four string, and four and five string fretless), mandolin, banjo, keys (piano, organ, synth), lap slide, sitar, and sing on my recordings here. I've been in a few dozen bands in my life, playing everything from bluegrass, jazz, rock, jam band, reggae, funk, afrobeat, Middle Eastern, traditional Irish, singer/songwriter, pop/covers, to experimental/avant garde. 
  Since I found SoundCloud a couple years ago, I've found many talented, creative people with whom to create music. However, in the summer of '23 I formed a band called The Eclectic Collective with some of my favorite musicians I've met through here. It started as a loose collective of musicians and coalesced into a core group of musicians who find other musicians with whom we'd like to make music, then run their songs through our process, and in effect add a full band. That core of The Eclectic Collective includes Tez (Llanpsych), J.J. Terrel, Ken (K2 and the Three), Stephen (Texmex Shaman), Chris (cgmaness), and Mark (mistermark). A couple of other musicians are frequent collaborators, as well, including Artur of Surfers Like Us, and Steve Vervaet of Steve's World. More recently, we've been joined by Carl of The Beautiful Dark fame. 
  The magic of music is amplified exponentially by each person adding to it. So, we really try to add our sorcery all kinds of music from all kinds of artists. Sometimes, we keep it within the group, but a lot of what we do is collaboration with other artists. Therefore these days, 100% of what I do is collaboration, within the group or with other artists on the side.
  I, and we, are also available for hire if you have a song or lyrics and you really want to add bigger instrumentation or a band and good production to it.

I also really like and am influenced by traditional Iranian, Palestinian, Indian, Sri Lankan, Sudanese, Mauritian, Somalian, Egyptian, West African, and Syrian music. I welcome anyone who plays non-western music to contact me for a collaboration, too.
 I'm overjoyed to have found my community on SoundCloud. This is a truly unique forum where everyone is sincerely trying to build each other up. The profoundly supportive and positive SoundCloud community has really opened up an exciting new world of collaboration for me. That is the main reason I'm in the Cloud, actually, to connect with other musicians and make music that I enjoy listening to, and hopefully others do, as well. I am ALWAYS looking to collaborate with interesting musicians, mostly though BandLab, which is where I record almost exclusively. It's a solid, free digital audio workstation hub where you can share recording projects, even if it's not where you make your recordings.
  Everything I do is live instrumental, not programmed, and using no computer beyond my phone. That's not to say that I would be opposed to using that kind of tool, it's just not my preferred medium with which to paint. If you like my music, please share it.
