“the place i use to hide” was born from an instrumental written by Melting Resonance in New York City and extrapolated on and sung by Yum Yuck in Cape Town. The song’s eerie and wistful production and lyrical themes speak of mixed feelings of isolation, frustration and rebirth. No longer running from your troubles or lovers but attempting to face them dead on. The intimate vocals and spaced-out synthesisers and guitars ebb and flow over a groovy drum and bass interplay that grounds the song.

In a suburban town in Virginia, a woman named Jordy has caught the eye of a man named Yahnzi. On their daily exercise runs in the neighborhood, they pass eachother, he sees her and smiles, she smirks back. This is all that ever happens.

Stylistically, the sound is painted in a dream pop, yacht rock, ethereal, groove dance, moody vibe. You can dance to it or you can sit and tap your foot, or you can sing along with the easy to remember catchy chorus hook.
