When most people hear the name HARIKIRI they immediately conjure up the vivid images depicted in Japanese films of disgraced Samurai committing ritual self-disembowelment in a bid to regain their honour.

Outside of Japan "ha-ri-kiri" is an incredibly widespread misspelling of the Japanese word "ha-ra-kiri" (腹切り, "cutting the belly"), a coarse alternative to the word that is more formally used inside Japan, Seppuku (切腹, "stomach-cutting").

Harikiri's name embodies a number of more colourful meanings, the gerund form of the Japanese verb "hari-kiru" (張り切る). This word simultaneously means to be high-spirited and full of vigour, passion and fearlessly strive further than any other has dared before. 

After learning about the derivation of his name it's no surprise that Harikiri makes such incredible and culturally diverse music.  Born in Birmingham with Jamaican and part Scottish ethnicities; Harikiri (real name André) stumbled upon a copy of Fruity Loops on a laptop at the young age of 15 and began experimenting. 

After receiving co-signs from the likes of ETC!ETC! and other notable DJs, Harikiri worked on his craft with his Transformers EP and expanded his range to include Moomahton, Dubstep, Twerk and Drum N Bass music as well as laying down several remixes. 

From studying Mandarin and Linguistics at degree level, Dré went travelling for a while putting his languages to good use and he currently resides in London despite his fascination with oriental artwork. 
 
After losing all of the data on a hardrive with 4 years worth of music, Harikiri still made major moves in 2014 with releases with our homies Trapdoor Records, the good folks over at Trap93 and it is our pleasure to unveil and support his latest single 'In Memory Of.'

We wanted to build the concept of this mini compilation around the 'kitchen', as it is very often regarded as the 'soul' of the house, where a large portion of daily activities actually take place. Whether it's preparing food, grabbing a quick snack from the fridge, or simply having a coffee with a mate over an extended countertop, its function does seep quite deeply into how we live. So for this holiday season (if you are having one), we thought it's rather appropriate to curate and share with you a mini compilation of music from our artists and affiliates - A compilation that would hopefully provide and enhance the environment for those who might be preparing that festive feed for loved ones and friends. 

After all, music is that one true universal language that injects positivity and good energy.

SWEATSON KLANK - I'M A FOOL

The offshoot label from one of our favourite clubnights in existence comes good yet again, with the second seriously weighty Debut from their side we've run in as many years. TIEF007 is the handiwork of fast-rising Manuel Fischer, a self-ascribed "Toolboy", and the do-over from Detroit's Amir Alexander is our pick of the litter.

Mr Alexander is a man so in thrall to the might and majesty of that raw acid sound that he's even set up a boutique imprint dedicated to just that, and like a true master he knows how to wield his weapons. The gurgling 303 doesn't overpower, instead shimmying round the original's distended voices and galloping groove, with a spare deployment of dry claps for good measure. There's a lovely bounce to the thing – it can be yours via Tief Music very soon indeed.
