Chris Hanna has been at the forefront of Irish electronic music for over eight years, first through his work under Unknown with fellow Irish artist Gemma Dunleavy and now as the formidable Carlton Doom. The Belfast based producer has built a reputation as one of the most forward thinking, genre-merging artists on the island, combining his love for techno, breaks and garage into a growing palette of sonic decompression. With this EP James Bangura has definitely taken me to another place musically. It certainly is the deepest record on any of the Holding Hands labels and yet I was so drawn to the tracks. Something about the weight of the sub just called to me and then shot me off into an imaginary club space. I could feel myself swaying with my eyes closed in a dark space with enormous subs and it felt right.

There is a real dream like quality to this collection and at the same time there is level of bite just beneath the surface. You listen and float but at the same time there is a sense of unease that comes from the off-kilter rhythms and sounds that appear from time to time.

They may not be the straight to the face hair raisers that you might expect from a release that I’m involved in but you will find that if you take them to the right space they will definitely have the power to create impact and moments of insight.

Delsin welcomes Jayson Wynters @jwynters into the fold for a four-track EP that embodies techno as a vibrant, expressive artform with the ability to uplift. The Birmingham-based producer’s sound champions impulse and feeling over perfectionism. He’s not afraid to push the synths into the red and get some dirt on the drums, conjuring up a feeling more akin to the grit and grime of real life than sterile, perfectionist production.

Wynters has already slipped out releases on Don’t Be Afraid, Phoenix G and Ornate Music, erring towards deeper strains of hardware-oriented house and techno but also displaying an instinct for broader tempos and rhythms. He’s got the vocabulary to rush at 140 and break up the beats as much as lock into a steady, heady roller.

On The Affect Heuristic, Wynters strides forth with his electrifying machine language which calls to mind the feverish, psychedelic tweaking and layering of visionaries like Dan Curtin and Lee Purkis (In Sync). The style shifts from track to track, leading with the cascading arps and rowdy leads of ‘Trace Minerals’ before swerving towards the springy electro-techno of ‘The Hunted’. ‘Crypto’ plots a darker, faster course into a vivid soundchasm sculpted out of low-passed impulses and spectral synth shapes. ‘Tehutis Law’ brings a distinct Motor City funk, loaded with wiggling accents to the groove from the bottom end right up to the high frequencies.

Wynters’ touch is highly developed, cast in technicolour, and it sounds incredibly rich in your ear, but it’s the rawness of the feeling which makes this an important addition to the long and winding legacy of techno music. The artwork – a canny meld of bold geometry, bright colours and rough textures from Jeroen Erosie (3024), Erris Huigens (Graphic Surgery) and Tijl Schneider – responds to the music in a wholly appropriate way. In a field littered with polished, monochrome clones, it’s artists like Wynters that truly shine.

El próximo 27 de Agosto verá la luz la quinta referencia de LATIDO records, un nuevo sello afincado en Granada, que capitanea Hugo Carretero, 50% del dúo de djs y productores granadino MORDISCO, además de responsable de MORDISCO CLUB, fiestas de altos vuelos por donde han pasado artistas de talla internacional como Red Axes, Jennifer Cardini, Curses, John Talabot, Sascha Funke, Marvin & Guy, TERR o Zombies in Miami por nombrar sólo algunos nombres. Ahora Hugo aúna fuerzas con el productor también andaluz Durand (Nein Records, Factor City, Esthetique), para hacer de LATIDO una prolongación del sonido característico de MORDISCO CLUB, aunque intentando trascender dicho sonido y por lo tanto ampliar las aristas musicales en su oferta.
 
La quinta referencia de LATIDO, un Ep titulado como “Late Night Tortures”, sirve para darle la bienvenida al productor italiano Tulioxi, incorporando además un par de fantásticos remixes cortesía de Roe Deers y Durand, quienes completan de manera ejemplar un Ep redondo. Esta nueva creación de Mattia Tuliozi (a.k.a Tulioxi) ofrece una fusión de géneros con grooves irresistibles que se armonizan tras una línea musical oscura a la vez que intensa que encajan perfectamente en los clubes o festivales más exigentes.

Tulioxi ofrece tres pistas que te conquistarán a la primera escucha a través de sus claras influencias ochenteras. Los tracks se mueven sin esfuerzo a través de melodías cósmicas de estética lineal y minimalista que recuerdan al italo más clásico, mientras los acordes eléctricos se asientan sobre bases de percusión incisivas. 

Con "Late Night Tortures" Tulioxi logra transmitir un mensaje de relevancia musical para un futuro distópico donde el baile será una forma de dar sentido a nuestras vidas. Un Ep fantástico con tonos retro-futuristas.

The https://soundcloud.com/new_world is upon us once again. It has been seven years already, since Markus Gebauer debuted on Riotvan under the guise of his New World moniker. That's quite a while in the realm of those sometimes short-term goings-on of clubculture. Yet, Gebauer kept himself busy meanwhile with his alter ego Interviews, reviving the erstwhile identity now that times are calling for a New World more than ever. And that's both, very generally speaking and particularly regarding his slick and classy approach to Neo-Disco-affairs. Interestingly, the lion's share of this EP had been laid down already five years ago, in an ahead of the curve nature that it couldn't sound more up to date right now in 2020. 

Take opener "Glances" for example. Suspense-packed arpeggio meets a groove-laden bass, gets kissed by some smooth melodies and far-out pads and evokes an immense open-air-hymn potential. Here's a little advance notice: that tune might not leave your head for the whole rest of the summer. "Enough!" in its seductive nonchalance seems to be cut from the same cloth. Another Indie-Disco sureshot filtered through shades-lenses. But "Enough!" - seriously? The hereby summoned feelgood-vibe will surely leave you wanting more. And more you shall get. "Fade Out" opens up with a rather straight beat-pattern, but again, the synth-arrangements, the melodies and harmonies are pure bliss. And then there is "Poéme", that Frankophile floor-enchantment, shaped out in sophistication and elegance, throwing in some subtle Depeche Mode-references and taking the French leave as one of the strongest clubtracks in this batch. Closing things up is https://soundcloud.com/the-juan-maclean, giving "Enough!" a makeover that aims for the dancefloor as much as, let's say the hammock, infusing both, an irresistible groove and a laid back, almost Dub-like attitude.

Turbo is proud to welcome Toronto warehouse legend and Art Department magician Kenny Glasgow back into the fold with Mean Machine, four killer club hits that mark his first outing with us since the 2001 classic Toronto Mix Sessions, which helped usher in the Golden Age of the Mix CD. Reached for comment, label boss Tiga recalls the beginnings of their friendship with a wistful gleam in his eye as he revisits a time before the burden of all dance music had yet to be strapped to his surprisingly powerful back:

"I met Kenny way, way back in the late 90s - great DJ. He's one of the only other guys I know who sings on their records; we actually have a monthly support group called ‘Layin’ It on the Line.’ Back in 2001, we DJ'd together at the launch party for my Mixed Emotions mix CD in Toronto, which was Ground Zero for electro at the time. I’m not sure if it still is. My point is: we’ve always loved each other."

Mean Machine leadoff “Hot Mess” features the lyric, “Watching you dance drives me fucking crazy,” which takes on added meaning when you consider that he’s talking about you specifically. “Weird Science” tears up the laboratory waiting room dancefloor with its clinical machine funk, while “Something Special” lives up to the insane braggadocio of its title with an eight-minute marathon of after-hours madness. Finally, closer “Just Let Go” urges you to cut your losses with your current family and buy that Traktor controller you’ve been eyeing on Craigslist every night while they sleep.

“At the end of the day, he's probably the only cool person I ever met from Ontario,” adds Tiga. "I mean, I tried to meet Dan Aykroyd on several occasions, but it never worked out. I wanted to tell him that bustin’ makes me feel good, too. And I guess Elvis Stojko is pretty cool. Anyway, Kenny has a leather trenchcoat that I have always been jealous of and remains a threat to my emotional well-being to this day.”

With his new album, Year Of The Living Dead, Vienna-born and LA-based producer John Tejada finds a blissful extended moment of balance between the new and the familiar. Anyone who’s followed his career to date, which has included four previous albums for Kompakt, outings for storied labels like Plug Research, Playhouse and Cocoon, and numerous remixes and collaborations – most recently, his Wajatta duo with actor and musician Reggie Watts – will immediately sense the warmth and eloquence that Tejada brings to his gilded, pliant techno and electro hybrids. But there’s more here, too; an explorer’s glimmer in the producer’s eye, as he gets to grips with new ways of working and being, while offering a reflective opening for the listener, something echoed in artwork by graphic designer and ‘contemplative artist’ David Grey.

“The album was started using tools I was unfamiliar with, which became an interesting exploratory process,” Tejada says. “Staying away from the obvious and having to re-learn simple things was a fun challenge.” You can hear these new creative pulsions pushing the eight tracks on Year Of The Living Dead ever-forward; the album has an unique cast, and though there are trace elements of the genres Tejada has indulged previously, he’s never quite put them together this way before. There’s the dubwise glitter sprinkled across the moody opener “The Haunting Of Earth”, the kind caresses found amongst the deftly woven textures of “Sheltered”, and the churchy melancholy, all hymnal and golden, of “Echoes Of Life”.

Year Of The Living Dead also speaks obliquely to its moment, though Tejada works this implicitly, allowing the strange circumstances of 2020 to cast their inevitable shadow without being obvious or didactic. “The production process began right before lockdown and continued through what felt like a very serious time for all of us,” he recalls. “Not being able to see or touch our loved ones made me feel we are all like ghosts. We can observe from a distance but cannot really be there. We are isolated and alone.” And yet, Year Of The Living Dead’s tenderness offers an out for that anxiety and loneliness, its intimate immensities gifting the album a redemptive and compassionate core. Compact and glistening, Year Of The Living Dead sculpts unassuming beauty.
