Inner Me was written by Charlotte Rose and CJ Pitts (respective verses, chorus by Charlotte Rose) and produced by Chrissy Thomas.
The song idea came from a, “seed”, of free writing that Charlotte Rose had done previously and developed over conversation.
Much of the writing was done in a shared space as was the entire production of the beat.
Chrissy Thomas crafted the beat around the verses by taking the emotional impressions that Charlotte Rose described to her as well as CJ Pitts' rhythmic and melodic ideas and expressing her interpretation of the two influences. You will notice sounds of wind, rain and temperature change as well as a shifting level of energy that supports both the content and the delivery of the lyrics.
Inner Me is a metaphor for the ever-changing relationship that our current version of self has with any one of our past versions of self.

I was listening to Tupac and I had just watched Basketball Diaries with Leo DiCaprio and Markie Mark the night before. I was in a serious late 80s/90s mood. I love poetry, not just lyrically but sonically also, so as I was making the beat, the track itself unfolded as rather poetic. I just started asking "Can I have poetic love with you girl?" (I'm still waiting for a response by the way). I wanted the song to represent a very sensual time in my relationship; the music kind of took me there by itself!!
