第5弾は、 カナダ出身大阪在住、Momentのレジデントアーティストの1人でもあるEnduranceのライブアンビエントセットを公開。彼のライブセットは開幕のしめ縄の儀式と同時に披露され、現地で録ったフィルドレコーディングと波形から慎重に作り上げたシンセ音で来客を異世界へと案内し、本フェスティバルでの開会式を美しく作り上げた素晴らしいサウンドを是非お楽しみください。

Archives, a new series presenting the sound of DJs and artists at Moment events, is proud bring you our 5th installment. This episode features Endurance, a Canadian-born, Osaka-based ambient musician. As a Moment organizer and label curator at the incredible Muzan Editions, Endurance has become one of the key figures in electronic music in Osaka, introducing more and more techno fans to ambient - and vice versa.
At last year's Moment, we asked Endurance to provide sound for the Shimenawa ceremony (tying of the sacred knot) that opened the festival. This ceremony symbolizes the strengthening of the bonds between us and was intended to purify the dancefloor. Using locally sourced field recordings and carefully sculpted electronic soundscapes, Endurance's set laid the ground for all the music to come, transporting listeners to unexplored sonic realms. We hope this installment in our series offers a glimpse into that special moment.

Moment Archives 005 | Endurance

For the sixteenth episode of our Herbarium mix series, we invited Endurance (@joshua-stefane), the label owner of @muzaneditions. He is a master when it comes to exquisit ambient journeys and therefore we are very happy to feature one of his beautifully told stories. 

For this mix he chose Chrysanthemum. Here is why:
I chose the chrysanthemum as the flower for this mix - specifically the Chrysanthemum / morifolium hybrid species, which originated in China and is also popular in Japan. Aesthetically, I think it is one of the most beautiful flowers, with its multitude of florets radiating from the center, or cascading down like willow branches, depending on the type. I love how such flowers can feel so complex and deep, simply through the arrangement of similar elements - and that is something that guided this mix. Using tracks from artists I love, old sound effects records from the 60s and 70s, and my own live improvisations and field recordings, I tried to layer similar or repeating elements over each other to create a complex and cohesive whole. So happy to welcome Osaka-based ambient musician, co-founder/ label curator of Muzan Editions, and one of the loveliest humans on the planet… Joshua Stefane, aka Endurance, who has gifted us with a very special live recording.

“This set – like a lot of my material – was recorded in a single take. At home in the studio, I have been trying to work on tight, focused sounds that I could recreate in a live setting at a festival or ambient party, and this set is the result of those efforts. I like how the initial intensity of the set slowly recedes, evolving into other, more serene forms of the same sound.
Recorded in March 2024 with a Moog Mother 32, modular synths, and processed field recordings.”

About Light Leaks:
This is the first installment of Slow Change Ambient Sessions, which I hope to continue on a more or less yearly basis in the future.
My focus in composing these tracks was on creating multiple loops of varying lengths and letting them evolve generatively over time to form slowly modulating layers of sound. As such, this album leans more towards the meditative and calming side of ambient. When I'm not listening to other people's music, these are the kinds of compositions that I set in motion when I want a soundtrack to work, read, or think to at home, and I thought that some of you might enjoy them as well. I certainly hope that that is the case and that listeners will feel just a little more relaxed and happier about being in the world.
