With this album, Glåsbird's 'A Sonic Expedition' draws to its close. It began at the North Pole, in the frozen waters of the Arctic Ocean and it ends at the South Pole, on the world's least populated continent; the ice-capped desolate grandeur that is Antarctica. It had been suspected that this land existed long before it had been discovered and many had died in their pursuit to find it. Some may even have died as a consequence of accidentally discovering it, through detoured voyages striking into glaciers.

The music here in Antarctica returns to Modern Classical, as the artist comes full circle. Echoes of 2019's debut album set in Greenland can be felt in places, as soaring violin and cello collide. However, these 8 tracks gather up the compositional and technical learning throughout the series, as Glåsbird looks forward to the challenges of the future.

The photography in this album is from Oceanographer Neha Ramsarup, who traveled on the South African polar vessel SA Agulhas II, deploying instruments and collecting seawater samples along the voyage from Cape Town (South Africa) to South African National Antarctic Expedition (SANAE IV). These trips are joined by a range of marine scientists, whose keen interests lie in ocean properties such as sea ice and weather as well as mammals, birds, whales and penguins who call these polar regions home.

This series of 8 albums has been a world of discovery for this anonymous composer, as their work etches into sound the hours of inspiration drawn from vintage maps, documentaries, Google Earth explorations and countless articles. Along the way, a familiar theme threads through the work as at every turn, Glåsbird's studies led to the events of climate change. The devastating effects are real, with melting glaciers, rising seas, disintegrating ice caps, wild fires, war and warming seas unintentionally finding their way into the concepts of this series.

As a clear juxtaposition to this, the sheer beauty of our world is also uncovered, with the work of visual artists helping bring this to life through the album covers and packaging imagery. There's an enormity and poignant feel to the music too, as melancholy classical notes extend through an eerie chill, or sun-bleached tapes explore hidden islands and tropical climes. The natural beauty of our world can be felt throughout this collection alongside a sense of despair too, at its apparent demise. Humans are doing what they can to build a momentum of awareness on our tired old planet, through education and urgency. It is hoped through this series that it can add to this movement somehow even if in a small way, to build a sense of care for our planet.

Endurance - Further - 02 Novum

First Snow of The Year" is the project of Belgium-based artist Erik Sevenans, who adopted this moniker in 2017 following his relocation to Munich, Germany. Whilst grappling with a foreign language and adjusting to his new environment, Erik found himself in the midst of an exceptionally cold winter that year. During this period of adaptation, he embarked on the creation of an album, delving into the exploration of ambient textures, a departure from his usual musical terrain. The album, born out of this experimental phase, coincided with the first snowfall of the year, thus being the reason for the project's distinctive name. Originally conceived as Erik's personal soundtrack for his daily subway commute while engrossed in Murakami novels, the project took on a life of its own.
 
In 2018, Erik made a conscious decision to turn this into an annual tradition, committing to record an album each year following the first snowfall. The raw essence of his second album served as the demo version for his release with Whitelabrecs, titled "Awakening of the Pines". The record drew inspiration from Munich's surroundings, the majestic Alps, the Isar river, and the nearby forest. During the challenges posed by the Covid-19 lockdowns and beyond, Erik experienced a surge in creative productivity. He dedicated time to refining his sound, experimenting with techniques, and applying newfound knowledge to both the development of fresh material and the enhancement of his existing body of work.
 
The writing of "Awakening of the Pines" involved diverse techniques and ideas, reflecting Erik's pursuit of discovery. The initial compositions varied in style, with some leaning towards a post-rock aesthetic and others embracing a more synth-based approach. Despite this diversity, the common thread binding the tracks on this record together was the inspiration from his surrounding environment alongside the novels he was reading at the time. Each piece retains its original character, preserving the essence of its initial spark, creating a cohesive yet eclectic album.

Harry Towell is an artist, composer and record label owner based in Lincolnshire, UK. He has been releasing ambient, electro acoustic and modern classical music since 2010 with records on labels including Lost Tribe Sound, Fluid Audio, Time Released Sound, Home Normal, Eilean, Polar Seas and his own Whitelabrecs imprint. Harry also records as Paper Relics alongside his brother Stuart and has collaborated with artists such as Sven Laux, Guy Gelem and Ekca Liena.

In 2010 for his debut album (Frozen Quarters), Harry captured field recordings from inside his home and placed these alongside lo-fi electro-acoustic compositions. In 2016 he became a home-owner and followed a similar process, capturing the sounds in and around his first property and this was released on vinyl via US label Lost Tribe Sound. The album was called ‘Light Through Open Blinds’.

It was a cold afternoon on the 9th of December 2022 when Harry, his wife Beth and their daughters Isla and Emily moved into a new family home in Morton, a quiet Lincolnshire village. After an initial period of settling in Harry began to sketch out ideas for a new album, using acoustic instruments as a starting point. He noted down events as they occurred in a 2023 diary that he was given as a Christmas present, took several photos and tracked the home improvement projects throughout the year. As with his two previous albums, he wanted to create a time capsule to reflect back upon nostalgically. The achievements and challenges from the year were cast alongside innocuous happenings. Moments of beauty, chance field recordings and sudden ideas were the driving force behind what is Harry’s most sentimental album to date. Isla and Emily helped perform some of the music, whether it be playing acoustic instruments, making field recordings or controlling guitar pedals.

Infinite Light blends a range of musical influences, from modern classical and folk, to ambient and electronics. There is a whimsical feel to the pieces, which are drenched in vintage tape effects to heighten the nostalgia. Work on the album continued throughout the four seasons, resulting in 28 tracks and close to 2 hours of music. The album is available in two versions; a double disc gatefold vinyl-effect CDr and a deluxe version which includes a 32 page booklet inside a presentation box. The digital version includes the booklet in PDF format and within this you can read insights into the production process, the local area, a journal and more, as well as view several photos from throughout the year. The cover artwork is a collection of leaves hand-picked from the garden and inside the inner gatefold sleeve is a photo of the village, taken via drone by local photographer Ian Cappitt.
