Description: For this track I used only two libraries I created, "Percussion Palette" and "Upright Bass Drum". I sampled an old upright bass and used it as a drum set. I used a pedal, mallets, brushes, snares etc. For the percussion library I used drums from around the world including a djembe from Mali, a Gong from Bali, Balafon from Ghana,and Udu from Morocco and many other sources. I even used a Dumpster!

Here is a collection of percussion heavy songs with some various influences from around the globe. I played most of the instruments live, so very little samples used. I also featured the amazing Qawwali singer Sukhawat Ali Khan on a few tracks. "Bismillah" won the John Lennon Songwriting Award a few years back!

Percussive Global

I approached this challenge with the utmost respect for Mr. Zimmer's work, while attempting to be as far removed from his original piece as possible. A started with finding some stems that were not as highlighted as some other elements in this cue. For example, I took the basic motif of the bells part (which was much more of a subtle color than featured theme) and made that more of a prominent foundation . Also the back round ascending string line was also featured a little more. All of which leads you in to something hopefully unexpected and welcomed at the same time. Through the years I have heard a lot of subtle roots and americana influences in Mr. Zimmer's themes , even in scores that were far removed from the style. When I heard the vocalist which was also more in the back round, I heard her in a bluegrass kind of vibe. So, needless to say I went for it. I hope you enjoy, as it was a lot of fun to do. I played mostly real instruments, sang the harmony line and sequenced nothing .

This playlist is a collection of various works I've done , as a Singer Songwriter as well as Composer for Film and TV. As a songwriter I definitely lean toward the Indie Folk/Rock side of things, though I've always gravitated to sound and vie that was more cinematic in nature. That has lead me in to the Film/TV/ direction over the last few years. 
I recorded everything myself. I create a lot of my own sounds and play a bunch of instruments. Hope you enjoy listening!! Drop a line and say hello!

Upbeat Rootsy Cue

This is a demo I did using my Kontakt instrument "Space Island", which I made using an old toy steel drum. I mangled it up pretty good! I reversed some for a droney pad and ran it through an arpeggiator and then added a Roland Space Echo on some growl and delay for rhythmic variation.I also used the "Resonator Pads" instrument I created as well.

Joshua Meltzer is a Singer-Songwriter, Composer,Producer and Multi- instrumentalist from Los Angeles. He had two co-writes on Eastmountainsouth's Dreamworks debut including "You Dance" which reached .1 on the Non Com Triple A charts. He's had songs placed on the WB's "One Tree Hill", HBO,STARZ Networks,MTV's Real World and Road Rules. He won the Grand Prize for the John Lennon Songwriters Contest in the World Music Category as well as 2nd place in the International Songwriting Competition . He was chosen for ASCAP's Lester Sill Workshop in Los Angeles and The ASCAP New York City Showcase . He was chosen to receive the ASCAP Robert Allen Award at Lincoln Center.
As a composer Joshua composed the score for the award winning Feature Documentary " Beyond Fear" featured at the Asian Film Festival in N.Y.C. and also won "Best Documentary" at the European Spiritual Film Festival, and winner of the Human Rights Award at the International Activist Film Festival in Los Angeles. He also scored the Feature Documentary "The 99%, Occupy Everywhere, released by Participant Media and "Eyes Of The World", a feature doc . In 2016 he provided music for the award winning Documentary “Bang, The Bert Berns Story.” He now composes music for several shows for Discovery Communications, and currently assisting Emmy nominated composer, Tony Morales.
