After 200 years, man wants to return from outer space to earth after he had destroyed the planet and its nature almost completely. He left it as an arid and lifeless world. He hopes now that nature could have restored itself so that a return would offer him a new future, a new genesis.

Exodus (voice)

God created man in His image and likeness.
However, man wanted more and tried to be God's equal.
His pride and self-interest brought him down.
He was driven out of paradise by God.

God did still give him insight and reason,
so he could bend nature to his will
to provide for himself.
But again, man abused creation.
He wanted to rule over nature:
over plants and trees,
over the animals on the land, in the air and in the water,
over the earth, the resources, the air...
Again this went wrong
and the earth became dry and barren.

Driven and driven away by hubris
he had to flee, away from the earth
into the infinite chilly darkness
searching the universe for a new home.

But nowhere did he find a planet
equal to Earth.

200 years his space odyssey lasted
and the stories about Mother Earth tormented him.
Finally, he decided to return
in the hope that the blue planet had recovered.

General life - info / bio - - -
I began my musical education with listening as an infant and at the age of 7, in 1958, composed my first piece of music which was a brass quartet.

Early influences were guided by the musical taste of my Mother which was often Tchaikovsky and other romantic composers, with an occasional diversion to Big Band and pop music of the late 40's and early 50's.

The Boys Club Band, Grade School Choir and High School Band were a great education in basic orchestration and harmony and in the mid 60's, and self taught as a guitarist, I began live performance, which lasted until 1999.

Music and technology have always been my main interests and as those two elements continued to merge through the late 90's to the present, they have led me to the point where I now can successfully realize my earliest childhood dreams of musical expression in composing for full orchestra.

Special thanks to Mom for the great listening experience, brother Greg for the continued guidance in music from a formal perspective, and brother Lew for the technological expertise.

Marc Berger, piano
Marc Berger is a composer and pianist born 1947 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He studied composition with Ralph Shapey at University of Chicago and Alan Stout at Northwestern University, where he received a Doctor of Music degree, based on the dissertation “Heinrich Schenker and the Indivisibility of Traditional Tonality.” His piano study culminated in a master class by Paul Badura-Skoda. During his teaching career at American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Berger began work on an opera, Der Gruftwachter, setting to music the only known stage play written by Franz Kafka. The opera was recorded in 2008. Berger wrote a series of contemporary chamber works for his doctoral recital in 1978. He is currently preparing for production a choral setting of Tennyson’s Charge of the Light Brigade. After recently releasing a large collection of solo piano recordings, Berger recorded the Liszt piano transcriptions of Beethoven’s First and Fifth Symphonies, and is now planning to record many piano transcriptions of his favorite orchestra music.

Retired music teacher and composer from Flanders (Belgium). Founder and conductor of De Kleine Compagnie. Composer of orchestral/symphonic music, religious songs, theater music; arranger of a large number folk tunes and dances.

I prefer to write in a classical or romantic style, avoiding to use experimental musical languages in order to reach a broad audience. A number of the orchestral pieces have already been performed live (by a large orchestra).

To listen to my pieces here, the use of headphones is recommended.

Composer since 2008, I used to write music in about a hundred projects so far, classically trained professional musician, composition is for me a great source of joy, it is fascinating to be included in projects which require a beautiful collective energy, I hope that my music deposited here will allow me to share with you the enthusiasm that I put in creating them.

Descriptif perso et matériel.

Passionné de musique de film j'avoue profiter de l'opportunité de composer pour laisser une empreinte scénographique à mes créations, qu'elles soient symphoniques ou post modernes (voir les deux à la fois), par ailleurs ces musiques sont toutes protégées à la SACEM.
Mes pièces musicales sont aussi très souvent orientées pour la danse classique, néo classique ou contemporaine (déformation professionnelle oblige !) mais il m'arrive aussi de travailler sur d'autres disciplines artistiques comme par exemple le Slam, Hip hop, voir même occasionnellement le Dancefloor (étant très ouvert artistiquement parlant !).
