Night Moves - Carl Sagan

“Call Me Revolution” is a  19-minute 'sonic documentary’ that creates a contemporary sound quilt of song and  recent speeches in  America’s history in dedication to #BlackLivesMatter. With carefully selected audio recordings from J.Cole to President Obama, Angela Davis to Alicia Keys (with some being live show recordings including one featured speech from Erykah Badu) this avant garde piece of work is a new take on artivism, documentarianism, and audio storytelling.

Featuring the Dizzy Gillespie of Hip Hop himself, Owuor Arunga (who is currently on tour with Macklemore) and award-winning North Carolina bass player & guitarist Brosnan Granger, the track hints at  infusions reminiscent of a Fela Kuti jam with  Lauryn Hill, Marvin Gaye, Erykah Badu and Louis Armstrong.  Call Me Revolution written, performed, and produced by NC-born songwriter, vocalist and artivist ami kim will transport any listener, no matter what social identity, into an introspective world of struggle, pain, hope and culminating triumph for anyone resonating with the desire for freedom and equality.

This is a very old song out of the Yoruban & Santeria traditions - Nigeria, Cuba, & Brazil. I learned recently that it is about those who serve the Orisha Oshun (sometimes Osun) and the brass bracelets they wore that Oshun asked them to rattle. This somehow managed to be mistakenly interpreted and shared by myself and many others as “necklace of love,”  perhaps due to the devotees adoration of the Orisha.  Oshun embodies love and sexuality  and one of her elements is brass, which never rusts. One writer shares "To understand Osun is to know the intelligence, vitality, caring and nourishing abilities of womankind. Long-suffering, cheated, overlooked, and over-worked, but always committed to the survival of humanity. Besides signifying wealth, brass never rusts, it is eternal. In Osun, we have the embodiment of prosperity, love, beauty, elegance, sexuality and sensuality and a divinely sanctioned feminist.

#DRAFTS - I write. A LOT.  So this year I'm going to ra-lease  more of my drafts and unfinished pieces...I have 100s and instead of them getting dusty on my computer I'm now going to share some :) Forgive the quality as the intention is more about the raw versions of what comes thru~  Visioning this inspires good vibes, love, and the sweetness of purest intimacy :) And I've been spending a lot o' time with water and it was raining the day I wrote this so I added the sound to the track.
