What do you do with the mad that you feel? 

I combined a few clips from Fred Rogers testifying before a Senate subcommittee with a track from Sleeping At Last (http://sleepingatlast.com). It's two things I listen to regularly as reminders of what matters in life. So I decided to combine them and share. Hope it encourages you, too.

On May 1, 1969, Fred Rogers, host of the (then) recently nationally syndicated children's television series, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood (named Misterogers' Neighborhood at the time), testified before the Senate Committee on Commerce Subcommittee on Communications to defend $20 million in federal funding proposed for the newly formed non-profit Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which was at risk of being reduced to $10 million. Subcommittee chairman, Senator John Pastore (D-RI), unfamiliar with Fred Rogers, is initially abrasive toward him. Over the course of Rogers' 6 minutes of testimony, Pastore's demeanor gradually transitions to one of awe and admiration as Rogers speaks.

"The Aphelion is the point in the orbit of an object where it is farthest from the Sun." (- wikipedia) Today, we are at the farthest point away from the Sun that we ever get. Roughly 3 million miles further than where we'll be in 6 months (at Perihelion, when we are closest to the Sun) 

I chose to write a piece of music about Earth's 2020 Aphelion because... well, it's been an incredibly challenging 6 months for just about everyone on planet Earth and somehow thinking that today, the Earth will begin to find its way back to the Sun makes me feel hopeful that the next half of this year could be brighter. Maybe even healing. 

This piece of music is the score of sorts to the last difficult 6 months Woven throughout, there are tiny sounds in tribute to the news of the  pandemic, protests, riots, the launch of SpaceX's Dragon, (even a nod or two to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. And snippets of sound from every month of 2020 so far. The song gets more and more distant until the end. 

Oh and "Aphelion" officially kicks off "Astronomy, Vol. 2"! Can't wait to continue on being inspired by the incredible astronomical events and discoveries as they unfold!
