Music for the Ninth Silence the first full-length ambient album by TOMC, is a work that speaks of "uncategorizable emotions and silence”, comparing them to the metropolis. The duration of all the tracks is unified at 4 minutes and 33 seconds, and each track is given a name based on psychologist Carl Jung's eight typologies and the places in Tokyo that TOMC recalls.

All of the music is produced with TOMC's electronic piano playing, with a nod to Hiroshi Yoshimura, Erik Satie and Steve Reich, and without sampling from existing music. The fusion of tones reminiscent of 1980s Japanese ambient / new age music and the three-dimensional sound textures of contemporary ASMR culture, free from the constraints of the grid, is a reflection of his vision of Tokyo.

The vibrant Japan of the 1980s is considered by many young Japanese people to be a fantasy far removed from the present day. On the other hand, much of the culture and urban landscape of modern Japan undeniably originates from the 1980s. TOMC, who lives in Tokyo, the largest city in Japan today, has been thinking about the "uncategorizable emotions and silence" that suddenly come to the minds of people living in the city, which is faced with various problems unique to developed countries and sometimes has to embrace a sense of stagnation, and depicted them in this album.

TOMC sees that ambient and new age music is not a form of "escapism" but an art form to connect the self with reality. When people who are in the midst of "uncategorizable emotions and silence" (i.e., you in someday) come into contact with the tracks and reclaim themselves, this album will be truly completed.

This stage is on-going today, and is full of questions: What does it means to be oneself? What assumptions are accurate? What’s been an act all along? It’s a period of her life, and on the album, that’s deconstructive and lighter in tone. In its entirety, Yesterday & Tomorrow is deeply personal, but there’s a message for all of us to internalize: no matter how dark things get, there’s always hope. Even when you think it’s completely out of reach.

My new album BAGELS is a sixteen-track macro album packed to the brim with vibrant, colorful psych vignettes that will leave you in a daze, full and contempt. It is 4 of 12, which I will be releasing each month for the next year.
Dedicated to J Dilla, hence the title BAGELS, I pulled out all of my psych records and pondered what to do with them. Make a mix? Make beats? Do a live set? 

I decided to make red-edits /cut-ups of my favorite psych samples and see where it takes me. After creating a few, I realized the music was in the same ilk as Dilla Donuts. I decided to make a tribute to J Dilla Donuts and my good friend Nate Watters (Sounds Supreme).

Nate was a brilliant DJ and environmentalist who ran his own clean energy company and did a lot of good for the world. He passed a little over half a year ago from Lyme. I was thinking a lot about him this past month and it came out in the music. 

I initially focussed the album on Global Warming but thought it was too on the head and too dark, so I reworked it to be a much more loosely interpreted piece of work. The way I see it/hear it is holding onto nostalgia, which is interpreted by the radio samples, while living in complete utter chaos which, is the anxious cut-ups of the music and movement of the album. However, I'd like this album to mean and represent whatever the listener takes from it.

BAGELS is released today Friday, Feb. 4th, 2022. Available on my Bandcamp. There will be a release party for the album in Denver at Bear Creek Distillery (1879 S Acoma St) tonight, Friday, Feb. 4th, 2022. 7-10 pm. Free event. Hopefully, you can make it!

Deaf Club is a savage sound bath dripping with sardonicism: a blastbeat-centric hardcore punk assault channeling crust, thrash, and grind (un)sensibilities. Succinct  pauses, surreal frequencies and effects, breakneck pace and sharply hurled vocals characterize the band’s aesthetic, which  seems as though it is rooted in a sort of nasty-sound-meets-highbrow-message ethos. Fueled by the onslaught of society’s insanity and driven mad by tinnitus, Justin Pearson (The Locust, Dead Cross, Planet B), Brian Amalfitano (ACxDC), Scott Osment (Weak Flesh), Jason Klein (Run With The Hunted), and Tommy Meehan (The Manx, Chum Out!) approach music as an opportunity to confront our collective sicknesses. Last October, the band released their debut EP, Contemporary Sickness, as well as a Remix cassette EP of bonus remixes featuring GothBoiClique’s YAWNS, Bubblegum Octopus, 304angstroms, and DJ Embryonic Petit Sac. More recently, the band released a cover and video of Killing Joke’s “The Wait” as a benefit, with all proceeds going to Fair Fight, an organization founded in 2018 by Stacey Abrams.

Ironically, Deaf Club’s debut LP was recorded on the same day as what would become known colloquially as The Insurrection - January 6th, 2021. While the actions that day at The Capitol were aimless, unplanned, asinine and delusional, this album was created in direct opposition without even knowing it: it is intentional, tactical, bitterly relevant. In short, it serves as a productive disruption to the bootlicking, copsucking, flag-fucking frenzy we’ve found ourselves surrounded by. And although the band’s 2019 EP, Contemporary Sickness, delivered its own blastbeat-fueled urgency in message and tone, this full-length ventures deeper into the abyss. Having had time to stew in the cesspool of the last two years and mutating into its newest variant, Deaf Club confidently emerged angrier, evolved, more focused and thus, more dangerous. It discovers nastier, weirder, grimier territory, often through its use of pedals and distortion, in large part due to the addition of sci fi shredder Tommy Meehan. Alongside Brian Amalfitano, these two guitarists leave no sound untuned. Merge this with Justin Pearson’s always acerbic lyrics alongside drummer Scott Osment and bassist Jason Klein, and what you end up with is Productive Disruption: a death threat to some, a love letter to others.
