This song is about the cycle of life. Max was a dog that my daughter grew up with and his death at 14 years of age was very dificult for her to understand as a young person.
The song begins with Max as a playful young pup. As he grows older he begins to slow down. In old age death is imminent. While saddened by our loss we know that he has crossed over to the other side to again be a young playful pup.
