School has taken over my life. Piano practicing for lessons have taken over my evenings. And the only time I have to compose are on Saturdays and Sundays so I'm sorry I haven't been able to put out any new material. I have some projects underway but due to my schedule it makes it rather difficult to finish any of these ideas and then when I'm busy the idea drifts away.

HOWEVER...I decided it was time to just stick this up there. A personal project of mine is to re-orchestrate some pieces from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening soundtrack into full symphonic movements. I always wanted to do an orchestral version of Mabe Village because of its simplicity and child-like tune. So I decided to take a shot at it and created this piece. Influenced by other Zelda scores like The Windwaker soundtrack and the Majora's Mask soundtrack and others, this piece only took about a week or so and like traditional video game music I went and just looped it as if it were a score from the game. Anyway, enjoy the piece. Expect more orchestral arrangements of Link's Awakening in the future! I've got a brilliant idea for the boss/nightmare battle that I'm eager to work on and deliver that. Anyway, stay tune for more!

PS: Also this piece was written using EWQL Symphonic Gold and Storm Drum 2 on a 2009 MacBook Pro 13 inch model with a 2.53 GHz with 8 GB of RAM.

V I D E O G A M E S || The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - Mabe Village

So this one is taking a different turn from my usual orchestral movie soundtrack stuff with electric beats and techno styling and what not. So I've taking the route to the video game realm and was thinking more upon little villages and forests stuff you would usually encounter in an adventure game......example that came to mind with this piece: Star Fox Adventures for the Nintendo Gamecube and/or Skies of Arcadia (the forest segment) for the Sega Dreamcast. If you've never played either, that's alright haha!! But anyway...so with this piece, two major factors to point out that helped influence me with this piece...Number 1: John Powell and his work with the Disney Animation Studios' "Bolt".....It's actually the first song where you see Bolt as a little puppy and the song is introduced with the cute little marimba and celesta instruments......so that's where that idea came from and Number 2: Michael Giacchino from the Pixar's "Up" film...it's mostly the melody that inspired me to write my melody...the method of doing a root to third to root and then down to the 7th and then back up to the third and so fourth......kind of that jumping bounding style....gives it a little lively feel to it...so with those two major factors and envisioning some little video game forest, this is what you get. 

Some other key points to make mention........it was fun with the time change from 3/4 to 5/4, however, there's one thing that's uber annoying and I can't do anything to fix it, unless have an actual real marimba and a microphone......that is.........when it goes into the 5/4 section, I do not know why, but you'll hear these itty bitty bleeps and bloops........why? I honestly cannot tell you.......but it's a digital technical problem......and there's not much I can do.....I tried from reverb to changing the velocity level and what not, buuuuuut they're still there...........but that's really a minor detail.....Other notes......I had really admire the voices a lot from the Logic Pro library.......they're just the African voice samples aand surprisingly they worked out really nicely. Also another addition that I went into, bassoon and piccolo.......the piccolo segments were really fun to make it peppy and happy sounding, especially with the collaboration of the strings.......But yeah, other than that, I dunno...the difficult part with this song and like with EVERY single song I have to compose is my poor little computer....maaan...and to show what my poor little computer suffers through I demonstrated the cooling power by my roaring fan to a friend of mine. haha!!! So that's the only frustrating part with working on this computer. Wonderful computer, it's been goin' strong for 4 years and it's got that marvelous 1.8 GHz PowerPC processing unit, however......it just can't handle all that power! Soon enough.....soon enough......MacBook Pro........you shall be mine....Oh yes......she will be mine....

Anyway, enjoy the piece and as I made mention earlier, those freakin' bleeps and bloops during the 5/4 segment, I wish I could get rid of them somehow, but I really don't know how......except to have a real marimba and just record with a condenser microphone......but oh well.......I even tried out different marimbas from the MOTU Symphonic library and also some Kalimbas and what not, buuuuuut it wasn't the same..........oh well..........anyway, enjoy the piece...........comments, feedback, suggestions, whatever are always welcomed....So....enjoy.

ps.......as for the title? Eh, Vivi's b-day is comin' up whenever it is....the end of March/the beginning of April...somewhere in there haha!! I had a bunch of titles for this piece......but none of them had a significance....just filler track names.............sooooo I figured "Why not Vivi?" haha!! either Vivi, my niece or Vivi from Final Fantasy 9...........so my niece was better suited for the title instead of a misfit Black Mage......haha!!! Anyway...

I'm so so proud to share this latest batch of music with you guys. Each chef's story is meaningful in a different way and I'm thrilled that some of them belong to those who have been historically overlooked and/or mishandled.

Each episode of Chef's Table presents a unique challenge in finding a musical voice appropriate not only to place and scene, but also to the inexplicable dynamics of the human journey. In some cases it took genuine soul searching, more late nights than I care to admit, being plain old wrong and lots of heart to produce a worthy idea. But it's worth every drop of sweat if a story moves even a single person for a single minute, so thank YOU for searching this music out and for your attention :)

As Always I'd love to honor the musicians who make the pencil dance on the page. The Bratislava Symphony Orchestra was conducted by David Hernando Rico and the Symphonica Recording Orchestra was conducted by Vladimir Martinka. So here's a rendition of the Super Mario Medley on the piano. I mixed in my own stuff with some of another pianist's work, Andrew Johnson, into this piece. This was recorded on a Zoom HD so hopefully within the next couple of days I'll find some condenser mics and get a high end recording on a lovely Yamaha C7. MIDI keyboards can't quite reproduce the same feel of a grand piano.

I learned the song in one day and practiced it everything up until today where I performed it at some talent show. Anyway, check it out and enjoy!!!

Hall Of Mirrors

And here it is, folks! 'Smash' was originally written for my Electronic Music Composition class for my final project. The one thing I wanted to apply as much as possible was this incredible program call "Evolve Mutation 2" from Heavyocity. I needed to branch out and get more involved with incorporating electronic elements with my film scores and stumbled upon this beautiful program to get the job done. 

Mutation 2 has some of the most fantastic electronica sounds you can get for $120. Seriously, all except the orchestral instruments and the guitars and bass are all found within this program. That's right, the beats, the percussion, the electronica instruments and synth pads and everything.......all straight from Mutation 2. I wanted to implement as much as I could but also keep it at the film score level. I'm not as savvy as other composers when it comes to electronica/orchestral fusions, and I've dabbled a lil' but never have I put this much effort into a score to show case this product! It was a lot of fun to compose and definitely stretched my mind in how to portray certain ideas and emotions throughout this piece.

A Lantern In The Night ( Short Movie Soundtrack )

The idea for this piece was to keep the idea of when you were a kid you used your imagination for everything. So the marimba is to give way of the idea of still being a child at heart and by keeping it as simple as possible didn't distract the viewers watching the film, but more so being engaged with what this backpack could do. 

The original idea for this piece was a lil' more rock-driven with a shuffling brush kit rhythm but I decided to scratch that all together and re-thought the entire process, wrote it all out in a single night, and presented it to my client who then presented it to his team and they loved it. So there you have it, all written in Logic Pro with all the guitars from Logic Pro's library with instruments from EWQL Symphonic Gold (strings at the end and the marimbas). Anyway, download it for free and enjoy!
