The R&B genre is arguably over-saturated with a growing multitude of young female artists, but there is so little diversity in style and sound, it is often difficult to tell them apart - until now. Singer/songwriter Layla separates herself from the pack with her heartfelt vocals that are reminiscent of hip hop soul queen Mary J. Blige.

Born in upstate New York, Layla amazed friends and family at the age of eight with a voice that was far beyond her years. Though she sung mostly for fun, a tragic event would inspire her to pursue a professional career years later. “My mother sung and played soulful R&B in the household when I was a child so I have always been surrounded by music. After the death of someone I loved, being able to express myself musically helped me endure.”


One of few genuine artists to emerge in recent years, she refuses to compromise her artistic integrity to follow trends, preferring to remain uniquely authentic, considering every song a personal conversation with the listener. “I believe the fact that I give my fans unpretentious music separates me from other artists. I’m not trying to be like anyone else. I express my thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a way that they can relate as only I can.”


In August 2008, DJ Red Alert began playing the promo each week at the beginning of his 98.7 Kiss FM Mix Radio Show which has a 2.5 Million Listening Audience in the New York City Tri-State area. The Promo has received an overwhelming positive response from listeners prompting Red to invite Layla to sing live on the radio. Subsequently, Layla sang live on DJ Red Alert’s 98.7 Kiss FM Radio Show twice to rave review!
