일기 9: 사랑을 몰라서 놓았어

나는 늘 상처받는 게 무서웠다.
그래서 먼저 거리를 두고, 차갑게 선을 그었다.
그런데 그는 차가움 속에서도 따뜻하게 웃었고,
나를 투명하게 바라보았다.
그 시선이 두려웠다.
보이지 않던 내 마음까지, 다 들킨 것 같아서.

그는 끝까지 화내지 않았다.
붙잡지도 않았다.
그저, “괜찮아. 너의 선택을 존중할게.”
그리고 마지막으로 —
“I just hope… all is well.”

그 말이 계속 맴돈다.
그렇게 따뜻한 작별을 받아본 적이 없어서,
마음이 더 무너진다.
사랑받는 법을 몰라서, 놓아버린 걸까.
아니면 정말… 놓는 게 더 안전했던 걸까.

Diary 9: I Let Go Because I Didn’t Know Love

I was always afraid of getting hurt.
So I drew my lines early,
kept my distance,
and wrapped myself in cold words.
But even in that cold,
he smiled warmly —
looked straight at me
as if he could see the parts I’d never shown.
And that scared me.
Because it felt like even my hidden heart was exposed.

He never got angry.
He didn’t hold me back.
He only said,
“It’s okay. I respect your decision.”
And for the last time —
“I just hope… all is well.”

That phrase keeps echoing.
Maybe it breaks me more
because I’ve never been given such a warm goodbye.
Did I let go because I didn’t know how to be loved?
Or was it truly… safer to let go?
